If Tab's is anywhere near 100%, North definitely don't have anyone to stop him given their KPD stocks. Unfortunately, he looked a long way off that in pre-season.

As long as he doesn't get in Amiss' way I am happy.
Should be getting him to lead away from Amiss tbh. If his opponent follows him thats one less player that gets in the way of Amiss. If his opponent doesn't we kick it to Taberner.

This is it in a nutshell for me.

It’s inside mid or nothing from my point of view for Erasmus.

Erasmus doesn’t have a 2nd position. He’s an inside mid. It’s tempting to want to put him on a wing due to his running capacity but his foot skills let him down, and he hasn’t shown the overhead marking skills at AFL level that he showed in his junior days.

He looked elite as an inside mid at WAFL level
In 2022 but Freo are stacked for inside mids.

10 was probably high, but there was a mystique around Erasmus due to his blistering PSA form and then he was injured and didn’t play elite competitions. If you didn’t take him at 10, we would have taken him at 12.
I reckon Erasmus would have notched up a few more games at the Eagles. Would you rather Erasmus or Chesser at this stage?

I don't think there is any issue with Erasmus other than his lack of speed. His kicking in the preseason games was fine. His development is as patchy as his selection situation. Maybe he should just play wafl until he is needed for a full game at the next level for now. Keeping Brodie was always going to be problematic for Erasmus.

Tabs generally plays pretty high & all reports from last week were he pushed up the ground & was pretty effective.
Brodie going feels like security for Clark with the potential of Young having to go back, which I’m sure they didn’t want to do, but it probably looks best on paper. I’m sure they’ll do everything possible to keep Young in the middle.
Erasmus hasn’t done too much wrong at AFL level, there’s just not the opportunities yet, he’ll be a very good player.

If Tabs plays and leads in the same direction as Amiss I will break the TV. I'd say play Tabs as a high half forward roaming the wings but he doesn't look to have the fitness this year.

Much of a muchness between Chesser and Erasmus as things stand right now.

Chesser is improving every week after playing next to no football from 2020-2022. He finally looked like he belonged on the weekend when he came on as sub, and seemed to grow in confidence during the pre season.

Erasmus looked closer to locking down a spot in the team in 2022 than he did in 2023 onwards, in that sense their trajectories are going opposite way. Ask me after this weekend when chesser should get a full game.

We need to factor in that Erasmus is playing out of position and chesser has been playing graveyard watchmen fat side winger role. Neither great to show your wares.

I don’t have concerns about Erasmus ability as a mid as much as I think he doesn’t fit in your 22.

Erasmus would be at 30+ games if he was playing for us, but we played Liam Duggan as mid in the weekend 🥴

See I'm not sure if you can really say that. He's played 20 games so far, which is probably slightly down on a player entering their third year but not by much. He has had opportunities, just has not been good enough to grab them so far - which is understandable given his age.

How many games has Ras played where he wasn’t Sub or subbed out? And of he’s not playing he’ll be held over as emergency most times so doesn’t even get to play WAFL. We’re really not giving him a chance. People complain about his game on the weekend while plenty of players who had poor first quarters were forgotten because they had time to ease back into the game

Maybe Erasmus needs more game time but not enough to be ahead of other players in the starting side?
This. He is not gonna build a tank as a sub coming on in the 3rd quarter. He needs to tear it up with the Thunder and put in some performances that make him undeniable as a starting 22 selection for Freo.

Just a thought:

Fyfe to sub, Erasmus to the midfield.

Reduces the great man's exposure to a hostile surface, gives Erasmus an opportunity against his peers.
Not how I expect it to go, but how about..

Fyfe > Cox
Brodie or JOM > Fyfe
Draper > OMac
Walker > Worner
Ras > Brodie or JOM

I do however expect it to include Tabs.

Erasmus has a great tank.

Ran 6:04 2KM time trial as a 17 year old.

His running and repeat efforts are elite. That’s why he was considered for wing role.

Just seems to have lost a fair bit of pace since building up his body. Needs to work on that a bit. Doesn't seem to get across the ground very well. Needs to improve his explosiveness off the mark. Imo

I haven’t seen much of him play recently so will take your word for it, although Erasmus has never been “fast” if he has out on weight it could have affected his running.

He has never had explosiveness off the mark, or pace. I'm not convinced you can build these at 21. He strengths in his draft year were his ability to hunt the ball, his endurance and his overhead mark for his size. (which we haven't seen a lot of so far).
