I’d give Hopper the arse. See if we can get a pick in the 20s. Ideally late teens if he has a good season. Keep Taranto though.
Pay a stack of Hoppers contract next year so another club will take him

Yeah good shout. Who would want him though? Barely AFL standard these days and super injury prone.
Someone would take punt at $400k for 4 years. Pies always desperately trading for duds

Didn’t mention the F1 trade with lolnorf

He’s not bad don’t mind him. Michaels content is better

Walking away with what we did this year and had two top 5 picks next year is insane

Just on Hopper / Taranto contracts $$$
surely we can afford to front load at least one of or probably both in the next 2 or 3 years, we literally have no one else to pay big dollars too.

We owe Taranto & Hopper $7,000,000 for the next 5 years that is left on their contracts
Balta will be on $1,000,000 a year for 7 years
We can pay 50% of their salaries in 2025 and still bank 10% of the salary cap

Lynch has $1.5 mil owing to him this year

In 2026 we could have $8,000,000 of cap space to play with with all the kids we will have on low cash

Salary Cap $$$ to burn. Wouldn't be surprised if AFL allowed cap space for picks soon. Mind you that has already happened with Bowes to Geecampaignerlong. Be good for us to take advantage of though in the short term

Stars of the future: 10 draft prospects to watch in 2025 - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1256448

A few from Twomeys list last year didn't get picked this week lol

No Rodriguez

That article reads like they want Duursma to be pick 1.

Early days but I’m on Greeves and Rodriguez bandwagon. Kicking, kicking and more kicking

Sharp & Rodriguez my early faves just from watching more than I have of Greeves. Greeves when he plays at Eastern will be interesting with no Smillie next year. He was quite good in the futures game. Very athletic for his size.

These kids are absolutely huge

It wouldn’t surprise me if this years draftees grow another couple centremetres

Scary thought Lalor and Smillie getting taller over the next year
Small criticism but given that the recruitment team obviously planned on going after tall players and one of our two smaller selections is coming off an ACL, why did they keep Kmac over one of the two smalls we let go.

Twomey loves Duursma, said he'd be shocked if Duursma wasn't number 1 back in March
It’s hard to like a duursma though. If he becomes the clear no.1 though I’ll grudgingly overlook the character flaw of being related to Xavier

Definitely we will go midfielders with our early top end picks to complement the 2024 crop of Lalor, Smillie & Hotton

Dyson Sharp will be the likely No 1 pick. Tough mid.
Oliver Greeves is another we'd look at as a big-bodied mid
Duursma is another in the frame for our early picks
Riley Onley i like as a tall bullocking mid
Rodriguez has good speed and is duel sided.

Agree with others re Rodriguez, he’s a jet, thought he was WAs most impressive in this year’s Nationals.
I’m showing my age a bit here, but I think Andy McLeod when I watch him.
He’s a 80m player, that can play hb , mid.
A lot can change in 12 months though.
Rodriguez could fill the Rioli hole for a bit while he develops or if McAuliffe became a gun starting mid he could stay there.

We're still going to need some bigger bodies to protect the new kids for 3 years.
It takes a while for draftees to be able to become full time starting midfielders and clubs that put too much on the kids too early end up stifling their development or running them into the ground
