I don't think they count gather round as an away game.

either Eagles or us would need to play 2 away games in a row
Yeah I’m more so just surprised we head to Melbourne the following week instead of staying in Adelaide and playing Port again.

But there’s also two occasions where we spend 3 weeks in a row at home and another 2 weeks which is good for travel burden

Fremantle FC made that call.

They mentioned it in their press release.

Bit of a mixed bag, the leaked annoucnements made it seem like a dream draw but we got screwed on the double ups compared to other teams. Ultimately we got the draw of a top 6 team despite finishing 10th which is annoying, but otherwise pretty happy. Once we get the early Sunday games out of the way some of those home fixtures are going to be great fun

With our draw, we have five clubs that finished above us on the ladder, with a a supposed softer draw than Fremantle.Giants, Swans, Geelong, Bulldogs and Carlton.
Collingwood from and including round ten play 12 games in Melbourne with 10 of those at the MCG.

I recon our double ups will be ok. There are questions marks about them all.

Sydney - Got flogged in the GF. No team has ever won a final after this the following season so I expect them to be 5th to 10th range.
Port - Got older and not sure the adjustments will make them better. Lucky to finish where they did.
Bulldogs - Flaky team, probably could be the best of the lot but I expect us to at least win one of our two games.
Pies - Older again, injury concerns but will be hungry. I will take this double up to play at the MCG in front of a big crowd.
Saints - Not many rate them but I think they will be better. Probably don't have the cattle to jump into the eight and top 4 so this is fine. We match up pretty good against them.
WC - Get this every season so no different. Hopefully the group has learned from the abomination last season and we get two wins.

I think we will avoid getting a double up against a bottom 10 team than jumps into the top 4. Actually, we might play them a few times in intraclub matches.

The only thing that annoys me is that WC always comes into the calculations for our bottom double ups when other teams seem to get the marquee games take out and not factor in to the overall picture since they are locked every year. It should just be luck of the draw whether they are good or bad since they are tougher games anyway.

Don't get the disappointment with the double ups, etc. Way I see it this is a great fixture for the team/club (increased exposure, reduced travel, middling difficulty) but a terrible fixture for attending home games (multiple night games including 2 Thursday nights; so, so many Sunday afternoons)

Baffling that this fixture gets an overwhelming negative response.
It's a fairly difficult draw. Stock standard though, afl puppets like Carlton and Sydney get it easy, while the team that missed finals for 2 seasons in a row cops a harder fixture.

Top 4 at the end of the season in 2023

Swans - we play them twice
Port - twice
Geelong - once, in Geelong
GWS - once in nsw

We also get the doggies twice

Aren't we the only 6-12 team that doesn't get 2 double ups against a bottom 6 team?

Dogs also just the one double against bottom six - North.

But Collingwood whilst they have two, have Melbourne and Adelaide - who would be expecting to rise.

Essendon and Saints with Gold Coast and Melbourne respectively who could rise too.

Carlton kissed on the dck with doubles against Eagles and North

I know complaining about the fixture is part of our DNA; but all up I'm happy with that fixture and think it's one of the best ones we've had in a long time.

  • No trips to Butt**** Nowhere apart from Gather Round
  • No trip to GABBA
  • Three stretches where we stay in Perth for multiple weeks
  • Six prime time games between rounds 7 and 15 (plus three more if the whole Sunday Prime Time takes off)
  • Only double up against a team I expect to be challenging next year is against Sydney

If we're a serious team, this is as good as we could expect. If we can't finish top five with this fixture then JLo has to be out.

Our time is now.

Pretty much Round 17-24 is a killer. We want to have be qualified or close to it by then.

Not sure I agree with this line of thinking. If we're qualified by round 17 (say 12+ wins), those teams in that block of games will be pretty nervous about their fixture against Freo.

It's only a really tough run if our form is middling (or worse)...in which case there's a strong chance we'd be on the verge of a coaching change anyway.

If we're playing well enough, we'll only drop a couple of games in that stretch.

Would be pretty happy to play Melbourne twice. Like I've said for the last 3 years, they're average

It's actually only 2 sunday arvo home games

I'm fine with that if we put them in their place where they belong. Double ups against weak teams will only make them think they are better than they are ;)

They aren't top 4 though. Brisbane finished 1st and we play them once at home. GWS were out in straight sets so they are 5th.

Other top 8
Hawks - Once at home
Dogs - Twice.
Carlton - Once at home.

We got it pretty good. I recon Adelaide, Gold Coast and maybe even North could jump up and we seem to avoided those teams twice as our weaker match up. Although I would happily swap out Saints for North.

I wouldn't be surprised if the gambling loving AFL were using bookies odds along with the ladder.

The 6 favourites with the bookies are Brisbane, Pies, Carlton, Hawthorn, Giants, Geelong. We only have one double up amongst them (against the team I think is most likely to not be a top 6 side). Overall it is 4 home games (including all of the top 4 favourites) and 3 away games against this group of 6.

Sydney, Freo, Dogs and Port are in the next bracket with the bookies. This is where most of our double ups are and it seems fair enough.

Saints and WC are bottom 6 (bookies) double ups.

All I see is a fixture where we should be 16-7 (or thereabouts) and finish top 4. No excuses. It looks like a good fixture to me.
