Macrae is a guy who’s averaged 120 and 115 x 2 before. Sure, he’s older and slower but he’s priced at 70 odd, that's with 4 sub scores in his average, 3 of those being under 40, and sought a trade for more opportunity. If he plays predominantly mid there’s no reason why he can’t go 90+, which makes him an easy pick for mine, especially in the forward line. Good durability too.
RtB LOVES flogging the guts out of slow midfield plodders....Ball, Clint Jones, Mundy, Barlow, Brouch, Steele.

Likely to get 75% CBAs on that basis. And imagine the junk he will accumulate leading up to NWM, Boner & co.

That's smoky and spicy! I'm keen on Sanders at that price range.

Going to be some great value forwards available. IMO forward picks will shape the hat chase more than other positions early on.

Here's a smokey: Rayner to average 85+.
Interesting. Do you think he makes the Heeney/Petracca type transition to full time mid ?

Hard to get midfield clock at Brisbane though with Neale, Dunkley, McCluggage and 2 Ashcrofts in there. I could probably see him spending time on a wing with Berry/McCluggage/Bailey

The Boner was boned mate! Available for weddings and bar mitzvah's

Dunno, everyone will have Macrae, Phillipou, Sniff and Daniel, add in JHF as the F1 and there's not much room for variance
Agree. It will only be the decision of whether to start JHF that differentiates most teams. If he starts with a bang it could leave people playing catch up (and vice versa).

Wow, I better start rocking up to preseason training!

Already been discussed on the previous page. Interested to hear your thoughts though...
I said it in another post but the F1 seems to be the most hard to pick this year…. I’ve gone from JHF to Rankine and to Baker but all have roles I’m not 100% on.
I think JHF sits forward when they need xfactor (unless J Berry does enough), JHF also is more a damaging player rather than a high disposal player
Rankine probably gets some CBA’s but with the inclusion of Peatling I think he won’t get as much
There’s talk Baker plays back but how much do we trust him to average more than he ever has?
So much more value in the mids and more players that stand out to me I kind of wanna start Macrae F1 and go deeper in the mids

I wouldn't touch Baker, he's going to need to be a Mr-Fix-It utility for us and role will likely change on a quarter to quarter basis. Plus he's never shown a history of scoring and he's 26 now.

I actually think we’re going to see the opposite this year with JHF. Expect to see an increase in his CBA attendances.

Last year we needed him to be our go to person as our forward line was absolute trash. Hopefully with Lukosius in and Berry, Richards replacing Dixon, Mcentee and Evans, then also SPP returning, were a lot more dynamic up forward and we won’t be as reliant on him to be our go to person.

Another preseason under the belt and increased fitness I think we’ll see him boost his midfield time. Will still spend time forward but I expect that will decrease some degree on last season.

Who loses mid time for him to gain it though?

Drew and Wines can’t play anywhere else
Butters is too good to move

Is it Rozee, the captain? He’s certainly got forward boys

If it’s Rozee that’ll put a spanner in my starting lineup

Last year Mead averaged 18% CBAs. I see that dropping quite a bit or he likely won’t even be in the side. None of the other guys that will be coming in outside of maybe SPP (very limited number), will be attending any of those CBAs.

JHF only attended 54%, even if he pushes that up to low 60s %, I think we’ll see his average increase enough to start him.

Agree - he's a born Mid. That'll happen soon enough.

He's the most selected Fantasy player at nearly 70%, and now at Geelong he has the keys to the midfield we are told.

Opening Round he plays Brisbane at the Gabba.
He then has Freo Rnd 1 at the Alphabet Stadium, then StKilda at Marvel. Then the Rnd 3 Bye. Then Melb, Adel, Haw, Carl, Coll, GWS, Port, WBD

He is $598k, with a BE of 55. The Fantasy Coach predicts him to be a 75 against Brisbane. The Traders can't see a world where he is less than a 100avge.

Is there a world after Opening Round you don't take Bailey Smith? What is your line in the sand score?

The only way I dont pick him is if he is injured for round 1, or some stupid shit like hes playing full forward.
He could score 3 while playing a full game in a midfield role and id still pick him

So a kick and he stays, a handball and he's out :tearsofjoy:

Even if Smith isnt in a big CBA% role I dont think it matters at he Cats, their wings and HFFs scored pretty well, better or as good as their actual mids.
Dempsey went at 73 in his first season of AFL while playing on a wing, Bailey should beat that if on a wing.
Smith went at 83 while doing 30% CBAs at the Dogs in 2023.

Cant really go wrong

If he went below 55 (for whatever reason) you could contemplate holding off until post Rd 3 bye, he wouldn't get away from you and would allow you to cash in on another rook who pops Rd0.

He is an absolute flourbag merchant so I could see a world where Scott loses patience with him if he's getting it 30 times and turning it over ever other kick - that's not really Geelong's modus operandi.

Edit: the latter comment was more about being a longterm hold for the season.
