Definitely presents value.
Just had a look and Sholl averaged 85 as a permanent wing last year. That’s encouraging as I’d think there’s no reason cumming wouldn’t see as much ball as he did, potentially more as I think Sholls kick is highly overrated and even as a wing you’d think cumming does still get some time waxing behind the ball.

Going back further, Seedsman probably the last similar type wingman we had in the sense was a guy we wanted to get the ball in his hands to use his leg. He amazingly managed 95 in his last full season (that concussion in the next off season a travesty) and had fluctuated mid 70s to mid 80s prior. I know you cant take much from it being a different team and different time but was just interested as like I said if cumming is wing it will be with intention to get the ball in his hands.

Priced at 56 I think even as a wing I’ll probably still start him, even if it comes with less confidence. 75 would imo be the floor, and low-mid 80s I’d say likely. More probably comes from him playing a role that still sees him work back as a distributor and push back for some kick ins (could rotate with hinge)

On that basis still start with him and make him one of the 1st trades after that score starts to even out in his price rises

Priced at 56 for a guy who would easily go mid 80s in that role that appeared likely, sure.
He's fringe 22 at the Crows, isn't going to get cushy half back roles over Laird, Hinge and Milera who are clearly preferred. He's not a dynamic or talented footballer. Had one good season a couple of years ago and has tempted us due to name recognition since then. If he's on a wing like suggested he may go mid 70's but 20+ of upside in the midfield priced at 56 is not value. You're far better off taking a rookie with 40+ points of upside or a slightly expensive mid pricer with the same 20+ points of upside (see Peatling, Docherty, Cerra, Day, Hollands etc). I love Cumming and had him in my side that few years ago, and he performed well. But he was pushed out of GWS for a reason and was not a sought after acquisition by the Crows. Screams fringe best 22.

Honestly I see him similar to Haynes at the blues. Haynes also was an elite defender option for a while half a decade ago. If that former relevance was one or two years later, like Cummings was, there would be the same level of interest from casual fans in Haynes based off of past glories. But the unfortunate reality is Cumming's days of fantasy relevance are over, like Haynes and neither should be in our sides.

Some of what you said there is fair but the post loses all credibility with
  • he’s fringe at the crows
  • comparing him to Haynes

I think he's on the fringe. Can you post a Best 22 with him clearly in it?
Can you find one without him in it?

I’m not going to post one because 1 visit to the crows best 22 thread will reveal plenty

Can you tell me the last free agent to get a 5 yr deal (maybe 6) that nets his club a 1st round compo and be fringe at the club from day 1?

Can you tell me the last free agent being chased by multiple clubs with clear roles for him (crows and port at minimum were balls deep) and who then chose a club who saw him as fringe?

The ? With cumming and the players you listed isn’t how does he make the team ahead of them, it b how the coaches decide to structure up- hence the wing vs half back debate and watch.

Cumming has been given a 5 year Contract, and enticed from GWS, who wanted to retain him ......very rare ADEL chase players and then not play them

He'll play DEF WING, and maybe fall back at stages across HB .....

Fair enough. I think despite the 5 year contract he's still the 21st or 22nd player selected and will as you say play a defensive wing role.

Mate most of your posts on here and credible but Cumming is not fringe. He is exactly what we are lacking at the crows.
He is ahead of Milera by a mile at this stage and most probably ahead of Laird

Well you would know more than me. As I said I had lots of faith in Cumming 3 years ago and over the last two years always kept an eye on him. I thought there were moments at GWS over the last two years. Especially the year before last when Whitfield was injured when they were crying out for a half back and they never moved him back into the role that he was so good at in 2021/22. It took me a while but over that two years I came to realise he must not be any good if GWS have let him languish over the past two seasons.

I thought the Crows fans were always very positive on Milera but maybe that's just all of us in the fantasy community having a bit of a soft spot for him given he's always value of some kind.

If you think he has a shot at a HBF role over Milera then you would know more than me! I just couldn't be comfortable with it and think Peatling is the better of the Crow boys if you need that position.

Cumming is best 22. But priced at 56 and going 80 is pointless. Better off saving the $250k and going a mid rook who will get you 70. Especially one that plays Rd 0 so you'll get two price rises baked in.
Generally very few rookies score 70, easily closer to 5 than 10. No reason you couldnt chase Cumming for 20-25 points upside over a weaker scoring rookie who is likely to go sub 60 from a 30-35 starting price.
We have been spoilt for a couple of years with Sheezel/Daicos types. Rookies going 60+ is a bonus, especially in a year with no clear outside mids looking for those seagull roles.

Each to their own. I'm not going near Cumming. Especially when I'm going to be able to take my pick of Rd0 rookies with one score already built in.

Would rather Taranto + $230k high scoring Rd0 rook named for Rd1 than Cumming + O.Hollands.

I agree, id rather taranto + rookie too but that wasn't really what I was talking about.
Just the over-expectation of rookies in general after the last couple of years

Would be interested for someone to compile avg rookies scores per round. My inclination is they pop early then their average declines over the season and into winter when it favours bigger bodies then pickups again towards the end of the season in meaningless rubbers.

All of which is to say if they do pop early and then regress, they've done their job.

Have we seen any news regarding Docherty yet? I've not seen anything.
No idea tbh, feel like we're going to be picking only 1 of Doch or Hollands, Cerra seems like if hes playing he will be in the mids, other two probably fighting for a good role. Although doch can score anywhere, just don't know the upside if hes on wing ect.

I think better off if Doc has a shit role and gives Hollands a free run at the juicy one.

Hollands going to be an interesting one to assess in preseason

To consider hes one I’d need to see both the role and the scoring. But then, PS games are notorious for inflating outside players/role scores compared to season proper so that adds another dimension to weighing that up

Doch will still go 95-100 in the midfield. Hollands 90-95 a chance if he's in defence.

Doch obviously could maybe be 105-110 if he was in the full half back pig role. But I don't see it happening.

Yeah im not so sure about that.

Cerra, Cripps, Walsh and Hewett taking bulk CBA's then there's Smith who will take a few this year, just not seeing many if any for Doch.
One of Hollands or him get the half back Seagull role, whoever gets the halfback role the other will go to the wing you'd think?

Doch still scored 104 in 2023 playing wing / little bid of midfield. He's just elite at finding a +6

Also sneaky chance Hewett is squeezed out of the side at times this year. We played him as the sub once last year (edit: it was actually twice). I wouldn't be shocked to see Hewett spend a few weeks in the vest, particularly if Jagga adds a point of difference to the Carlton midfield with his agility.

Was Hewett the sub with Kennedy in the middle doing that defensive role? Or did you guys just skip playing a more defensive mid?

Didn't even realise he was mainly wing in 2023, ive still got him in along with Cerra, don't think i could go a 3rd in Hollands though if they all get the roles lmao.

These Carlton guys are hard to read.

I’ve got doc and cerra at the moment but feel docs place in my side/structure is flaky. I’m just not convinced with the time off footy, age, role.

He was a lot more up/down in 2023 in that role and feel like the ceiling scores he hit will be less coming/high- in that season half his games were between 74 and 95. Those 9 games averaged 88, the other 11 averaged 119.

88-95 feels like his predicted range to me.

The Richmond opener gives some extra credit though to these guys as if they don’t pop in that early fixture they become the fix up trade to guy who does, if they do then their money making accelerates and say 1st 5-6 week ave will stay inflated
