We are not considered a contender - simply a minor round specialist and finals choker.
We are not considered Victorian is all that matters. Carlton were gifted years of Friday night games whilst a steaming pile of shit. It's no surprise, we'll keep getting few Friday night games until we don't have a majority of clubs based out of Victoria.

This article adds that Richmond are playing the Crows at Adelaide Oval in round 2, which would imply Port are starting the season with two games on the road.

Could be a frosty home opener if they're 0-2.
That would be wrong maybe the crows are playing richmond away round 2 because we are away to essendon round three Thu night so we must be home round 2

Also says that Essendon take on Adelaide in Rd 2 so you would assume it's a "we're Victorian all the non Vic teams are the same to us" typo and we are paying Richmond here.

Rd 1 v Collingwood Saturday Night at MCG
Rd 2 v Richmond Saturday sometime at AO
Rd 3 v Essendon Thursday Night at Marvel
Rd 4 ???
Rd 5 v Hawthorn Sunday Night at AO for Gather Round

I foresee an uninspiring but not bad enough to be coach killing 2-3 record by the end of Round 5. Surely the extension talk starts then
Technically it's a good draw when you consider we finished 3rd and the first 3 games are against sides who missed the 8.
Depending who we play in round 4 I see us being 3-2. It will be a drawn out demise of Ken probably make finals bomb out, then bye ken
.

Surely Collingwood at the MCG on a Saturday Night would be on FTA?
Outside of Victoria, there is no Saturday arvo, twilight or night game on Free TV in first 8 rounds between 2025 and 2031.

Victoria dont get a game on Saturday on Free TV until after Rd 15.

Its why I started this thread a few weeks ago to alert people to the new TV arrangements.

I know you, I and a few others were trying to get to the bottom of the ambiguous wording on the new rights deal but it seems to have been confirmed - see post 354 in the Fixture Leaks post on the main board, which links to this recent article:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...ll-shape-the-afl-fixture-20241031-p5kmu5.html

Under the deal, announced in September 2022, delayed games, or hold-back games, will be broadcast on free-to-air two hours after they start on Foxtel or no later than 8.40pm local time. That means a 4.30pm game would start on free-to-air at 6.30pm; however a 7.30pm match would be shown on free-to-air at 8.40pm.

So our Round 1 Saturday Night game against Collingwood will be on TV here at 8:40, an hour and a half or so later than its live start on Foxtel is likely to be. Our Round 2 game will have to be a Saturday game too so that'll be a delayed broadcast as well.

Thats interesting because today on SEN and AA sports show, they both said no Saturday games on Free to Air TV for first 8 rounds.

Home Showdown on May 10.
Just saw 9 news story on 9Now, that it is Rd 9, Saturday night, so will be on ch 7 in SA.

Those cocaine snorters at 7 and the AFL just wont give us a Friday or Thursday night stand alone national coverage showdown.

How effing pointless is it predicting wins and losses for a fixture that hasn’t even come out officially yet in November.

Honestly, who the **** cares. We’ve got a losing formula, with a proven losing record.

Everyone knows what is going to happen next year - we’ll have a new coach in 2026. It the biggest wasted year in living memory.

These were my exact thoughts heading into the 2023 season.

Are the Sunday night fixtures about stopping the overlapping Sunday games or is it purely the broadcasters looking at the American market and deciding that SNF should be a thing here as well?
Saturday in the USA is reserved for College Football so the NFL plays Sunday to avoid the clash.

All about ratings.

Is this the third year in a row we've played Collingwood at the MCG early in the season?

Might be nice to get them at AO early in the season once in a blue moon.

Before 2023, the last time we'd played them at home was 2017. We were due to play them in 2021 but COVID got in the way and we played them at an empty Marvel. Killer fixturing, dudes.

The cockroach will probably flipping win and it'd be the single greatest result in the club's history and we'll sign him a freshy for 2 more.

If we shouldn't dwell on the past and we shouldn't talk about potential future results WTF are we going to talk about on a Footy forum?

Do people actually still watch games on free to air? Only game I will ever watch on Channel 7 is the Grand Final, as I have no choice. The quality of the broadcast is horrendous, it is barely HD. Kayo shits on FTA and costs fk all.

Kayo has issues though, garbage app, slight delays, drop outs I pissed it off ages ago because I get free foxtel.

As I wrote at post #43 of this thread;

Under US's Broadcasting Act, the NFL can't be broadcast on Friday nights, that is kept for School Football, and Saturday's which is kept for College Football.

That's why Monday Night Football became a big thing starting in 1970 on ABC with Howard Cosell and co.

They introduced Thursday Night Football in 2006, partly due to the NFL starting its own NFL Network pay TV station.

The first week or two of Playoffs, the NFL have Saturday night games because either College Football season is over, or if some conferences have their play off game, ie grand final game, its during the day.

Broadcasters, mainly Fox Footy, but also Vic radio broadcasters SEN and 3AW have pushed hard to get rid of cross over games, so more Thursday night games and having some Sunday night games, doesn't eliminate the cross overs completely, but substantially reduces the number of them.
