Free kick Pies….and then the whistle got put away at the end. Would be spewing if I was a Dogs fan.

It looked like the Dogs would get their usual armchair ride from the umpires early on but then they started favouring the Pies.

All that booing from their feral supporters paid off.

What!? And miss out on your "Look at me I'm an alpha sad sack" retorts.
You're a curious individual Joffa.
And you are just incessantly negative. You aren't curious just a boring faux supporter.
You have nothing to say except whinge. Suited to Ireland, please stay there.

I try not to be an umpiring conspiracy theorist ... but the average free kick count differential in Pies games at the 'G officiated by Nick Foot has been an outlier for a while. I think it was +8 when I checked around a year ago, might be even higher after last night. For context all umpires are within a -2 to +2 range for us.

Wouldn't be the same Nick Foot who works for SportsBet? Woeful stuff from the AFL as per

Good stat.
I hope you update that for us every now and then.

yep. to be fair I just ran the numbers again and the Pies lost the free kicks in all his games last year (including a -14 game) so that brings that average down to a more normal range (+4.91). it's all probably just variance but a happy coincidence. some very ordinary decisions last night

the Sportsbet thing is beyond the pale for me too. I rarely punt these days but like others have plenty of stories about them - in general, a truly awful predatory company. to have the AFL in such a stranglehold that this kind of stuff gets ticked off (especially after the Michael Pell incident) is a damning reflection of where we are at

excited to get back to the footy tonight but i'll give you $1.01 odds that there's a group of young guys within earshot more focused on their same game multis than the footy itself

The ammount of people I see on thier phones with a betting app up at the footy is astounding.

I'd rather just use the TAB terminal every so often

A friend of mine is a high-school teacher, had a discussion with him about betting and apparently the kids even at that age are all over it. My friend doesn't gamble but the kids will tell him about what NBA and AFL bets to make. They know all the stats of the players and odds etc. Willing to bet the AFL and government are aware of this but money talks I guess, their marketing needs to be governed. The whole 'bet with mates' thing they have all started is very obviously targetted at young males with a dose of peer pressure.
