His first game was round 6, I don't think we rushed him at all last year.
We rushed him back for pre season and then he went out again

Then it became a massive thing where JL was asked about him every week, eventually he was back but clearly hampered, probably needed even longer or a mini pre season

I'd rather give him the extra time to makeup for missing the first half of this preseason

Fair enough, I can't remember us rushing him back for pre season. But agree, we need to make sure he's right for 2025. Far too important to be playing underdone.

It feels like we are being conditioned already for Darcy to have another 12 game season. We are still nearly 2 months from R1 and they are already saying he’s uncertain to play!

If that happens again this season that he’s unavailable lots and inhibited, jeez that contract is going to start looking like the worst one in the competition. 😫
Darcy was clearly in a bad way at the end of last year and needed to lose weight and go about his training in a different way.
All you can say is that he has done everything asked of him and he has progressed well and looks in peak physical shape. No one can guarantee anything but this is certainly a far more professional Darcy (training wise) than last year.
No idea if he starts in round one but at least he is back doing most of the training.
I would suggest everything has gone to plan so far, let’s just hope no major set backs.

Spoke to a very, very reliable ITK this morning. Said Sean told him everything was good with the knee (although he did say it would never be like it used to be), and that going to Qatar is just to help with the ‘mechanics of movement’. (Can’t elaborate sorry as I don’t know enough about what that actually means).
There was some brief discussion about maybe doing the treatment online with the team in Qatar, but the club decided to send him over after the success they’d had with sorting Chappie out.

Kane Corns is furious with this.

Darcey is in his opinion critically injured with no chance of recovery

The doctor he's seeing studied in Perth for a bit. How's that - we have a world class sports program here in WA

Enda completed his BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree in Trinity College, Dublin in 2005 then moved to Perth, Australia to undertake the renowned MSc Manipulative Therapy in Curtain University in 2009. Graduating with distinction Enda returned home and has focused his work in the Sports Surgery Clinic in Ireland around cutting edge methodology for hip and groin injury prevention and rehabilitation. In early 2019 he completed his PhD through the University of Roehampton in London exploring the influence of 3D Biomechanical analysis on outcomes after ACL reconstruction.

I think it’s about correcting movement and strength patterns that make the knee vulnerable to injury.

For example, I had a crappy knee (allegedly stretched ACL but never got a scan) from Aussie rules. Physio had a look at me and identified that I had an imbalance in the strength of my quads which meant knees weren’t quite tracking right, so vulnerable. Gave me a strengthening program specifically for it, bunch of weird tiny strength movements. Lots of work, but never had another issue with it

The PS game against WC was the killer. I would rest him up (maybe play a quarter in the second game at most) - if available of course. The PS games are good for Reidy. Couldn’t care less if we lose them. Last year Reidy got smashed against Port and did his in season chances no good. We should have just played him the whole game and sucked up a decent loss against Port.

Reidy seems to have improved so these PS games are very valuable for him and his development. He will definitely need to be called upon to ensure we look after big Darcy in season.

Reidy, based on current exposed AFL form, has one club in his bag. Contesting the ruck at a stoppage. That's it. If we go into AFL games with him expecting nothing more, we should be appropriately primed for what he brings. Similarly, we should expect his opponent to be targeted for marks when moving the footy.

That's not a critical failure for us, and he isn't alone in that, you'll remember Tim English doing nothing at the ruck contest but marking the ball almost every time the Dogs move the ball out of defense.

It's if he also doesn't contest at the ruck that it's a problem for us. I just really don't want to throw Jackson onto the metaphorical rocks with the waves crashing on him for a month.

Darcy looks good so far. Last time he played a fit season he won our B&F.

I said this in my training report which would appear to support what you are saying.
'For a player Kane Cornes seems to think could miss the year Sean Darcy sure looked great watching him live 30metres away. He ran a ton of laps to finish the session and also joined in training drills bar the match sims. His trip overseas was preplanned as part of his recovery months ago was what I got told by one of the regular training watches I spoke to. According to him the person we're sending him to (same person who helped Chapman) is a body balance specialist who specialises in plans to give strength to the muscles that support the parts of the body recovering from injury.'

For whats its worth Im quoting a person who spoke to our new ruck coach Sam Naismith numerous times during training breaks last session when Sam was watching the ruck contests in match sims on the wing near me and Sean was running laps. He said he knew Sam via family connections. He also said Sam was very impressed with Riddle's ruck work in training as he was seen as more of a forward who could ruck when drafted.

While I know thats not the greatest source in the wold I cant see how Sean could be involved in all but match sims if he had any kind of setback. Im confident Sean's on schedule to be in the team Round 1.

I'm fine if Riddle is a forward who can ruck. I actually think it's better for us that way.

A specialist #1 who is decent isn't hanging around to be the stop gap cover for Darcy.

At the very least, a forward who can ruck is stop gap cover for Darcy, Jackson, Treacy and Amiss. Opportunities will come.

Good news re: Riddle.

Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise that we lost Knobel. I liked Knobel but one thing he lacked from what I saw is any forward noise. He was a tall ruckman only. Before the Rookie draft big Jones suffered the vertebral injury and it was apparent that a ruckman with more of a forward craft was needed. Jones unfortunately seems a long shot with his injury and Knobel is no forward.

Mods can we lock this thread until there's an actual injury? I get an anxiety attack every time it gets bumped.
