I’d be a lot more inclined to swallow the positive spin the club is throwing around the trip if they didn’t have a decent back catalogue of smoke and mirrors regarding Sean’s injuries, fitness and availability.

Going from the vision from pre season, and reports of him looking extremely fit and happy I’m optimistic, but there’s a part of me that will only fully believe it when I see him out there on the field.

He didn’t pay for it. He agreed to do it on his off time which is good.
I'm sure I read somewhere that he is paying for at least some of the trip.

Most likely outcome I think is that he misses round 1 but comes into the team absent an injury cloud. Ultimately Big Sean's knee doesn't care when Round 1 is, it'll be right when it's right (acknowledging that his program will be targeting the shortest timeframe possible while, hopefully, not compromising on results).

If they're preparing Swaggy to play until 2030 and that means sacrificing round 1 then I'm all in. The spin all sounds very sensible and I'll gobble it up until it proves false when I'll deny I believed any of it for a second.

Of course there's smoke and mirrors. Why would the club want other clubs to know specifics about a player's injuries?

Could be worse; if you follow ice hockey, the injury updates are like “upper body injury, week to week”. That could be a concussion, a broken finger, a dislocated shoulder, a rib cartilage… who knows. And it could be back next week or a season.
Drives the fans nuts!

Yep, American pro sports all similar. The most they do on timing is something like "not returning before April 30".

Well, imagine if this is the level of detail we got ** -

"Cox has suffered a grade 3 tear in his upper left hamstring. After surgery and 8 weeks of rehab, we've noticed some heavy scarring at the site of the tear, and there's a good chance he might have permanently lost 10% of his flexibility on that side, especially while making lateral movements to the left. He has assured us he is fit and ready to go, we would prefer he waits 3 more weeks to work on his conditioning, but we can't afford him out because we've had another defender go down. There's a chance he might re-injure, but that's a risk we are all willing to take. Cox can't imagine spending another 3 weeks on the sidelines when he feels 'mostly good' anyway. Hopefully opposition forwards don't target that left side, by standing on his right and pushing off him, or forcing him into constant acceleration and deceleration on leads. Hopefully they don't find out he can't bend over to pick up the ball. That would be awkward for us. He might look like he's good to go, but we know he won't be able to keep up due to his lack of conditioning, so we've asked him to only run at 80% to avoid reinjury. Maybe he can yell at the forwards like Groves used to. In an ideal world we'd bring in Hugh Davies, but there's no way he's ready to go and the fans would eat him alive for not wearing a hat"

** not in any way medically inclined, so apologies to any doctors or sports people who actually know the human body :p
