100% - it would require a big name to be traded out. Freo are in having a crack. We know Pickett changes his mind like underwear and we can decide in 12months who is the better fit and if both nominate Freo we will need to actively look to trade someone out. I doubt even Switta alone is enough combined with existing draft picks.

Maybe someone like Jeremy Sharp will play so well he will win AA and a side like Geelong will throw $900k a year at him as an unrestricted free agent.

Perhaps Erasmus will announce himself to the competition and Melbourne will want him to replace Oliver/Petracca.

Maybe someone has already been chasing Matthew Johnson

I think there's a difference between having the available draft capital and having the salary cap room. Draft capital I agree I can't see it happening without shifting something out. But if we can manage the salary cap room, we may as well have a crack. No harm in at least keeping the possibility open at this stage of the season
To afford a midfield of Young, Brayshaw, Serong and Warner, and a forward line of Amiss, Treacy, Bolton and Kozzie, we would need to do something about the amount we pay to Darcy and Jackson. (Every single one of those players are going to want 800k plus - now or very soon)

If we get the equivalent of Lloyd Meek in for Darcy we could save ourselves 500k per year.

When it comes to the end of the year, and IF Chad Warner chooses Fremantle as his selected club. Our hand will be:
2025 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Richmond 3rd, 4th.
2026 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.

As he is uncontracted, will 25' + 26' First rounders get it done considering they will realistically (hopefully) be late teens even more when you factor in FS and Academy pushing them back? Its not ideal for Sydney, as they would want more but he is uncontracted and players usually get to where they want to get.

WC will obviously have more money and better picks but as far as I'm aware - the player has all the power as to where they land? Sydney wouldnt be able to refuse Fremantle and only deal with WC even though he has nominated a club.

If an out of contract player nominated us then their club has to try to get them here first.

There is always the threat of the preseason draft...but we don't really have leverage there. We would probably pay overs to us and unders to them.

I think bringing Warner would A) cost too much & B) lead to losing other players.

The midfield queue is too long as it is & we will have Reid and Simpson pushing up behind Johnson & Raz.
Simpson has similar attributes to Warner & will really complement what we have in there now. Reid looks pure class.

Back them in I say & go for Pickett.
Pickett, Bolton & the J’s is premiership class for the next [emoji6] years.
