Looks good IMO.

But more importantly can anyone post the clip from the club to 'reveal' it? Daughter just showed me - I picked the 'cleaner' straight away from the back of his head, not sure why! 😉

In 1925, we opened the season against Fitzroy.

I wonder if we will request to open the season against Brisbane. But cannot see it happening, with the AFL likely to repeat round zero for the northern teams, With bigger drawing teams as their opponents once again.

It may not be R1 but I would be the farm that we'll do something for the Essendon game next year since that's who we played in the Championship of Victoria match.

They surely wouldn't do round zero again...was universally hated

Brisbane won the flag and have the right to choose to fly the flag pregame round one at the Gabba so that isn't going to happen anyway.

Or pregame round 0.

Or whatever new BS that Dillon and his execs land on in their um, hmmm, can't write what I really want to, let's say "meetings".

Northern states, the AFL, The Dill and the media (more junkets) love it and will continue to ram it down our throats. Same as Gather Round (more junkets) and a twilight or night grand final.

That was in 1924, we missed that chance this year. I was hoping for something to commemorate that one.

Yes I know, but I’ve heard the club is pushing for it next year as part of the 100th celebration.

Obviously it’s up to the AFL if we get a home game against Essendon, but that’s just what I’ve heard.

Brisbane and Sydney would be the other candidates as we played Fitzroy in R1 1925 and South Melbourne in R2 was our first home game and win.

I read somewhere our first game in 1925 against Fitzroy was on May 2nd. That is a Friday night next year...

Footscray FC trading as the Western Bulldogs versus Fitzroy FC trading as the Brisbane Lions
Friday May 2nd at the MCG or Marvel Stadium

Just seen the little clip the club put out about the logo. Look for the handyman in the overalls making the new logo, a very special bulldog hero.

See my first post (OP) Fresh, also linked to the clip in post #2. 😉

As I mentioned, for some reason I picked him within a few seconds. I thought it would be a past great, and he's the first one that sprung to mind with that build. Still keeps himself in good condition for someone who just turned 67.

Edit: just turned 68!

As a former graphic design and marketing guru type.

I find it odd that the new logo uses neither its historic or modern corporate names.

So I picked a lane for them and fixed it.

They're welcome.

As a graphic designer I completely understand why they haven't used either.

They are celebrating the 100 year history, if you label it with one or the other, you are showing subtle preference towards a certain period of the 100 years, which defeats the purpose of celebrating it.

The why is pretty obvious.

But it does expose the problem presented by a club that exists as one entity but trades as another.

Especially as it tries to straddle both as part of its centenary celebrations.

Personally Im ambivalent about which name we use.

I think that same situation exists with Sydney and Brisbane when celebrating their history. It's only a little bit awkward but I don't have an issue with the club using the one thing both Footscray and the Western Bulldogs have in common, and that's the Bulldogs.

I assume (always a dangerous thing) that Fitzroy and Sydney would use the Bear/Lion and Swan respectively when celebrating their entire histories.

We weren’t the Bulldogs 100 years ago, but we’re not long after. We were still the Tri-colours in 1925 I think.
More so with Fitzroy, they won 8 premierships, but none as the Lions (7 as the Maroons and 1 as the Gorillas).
The emphasis on the mascot as opposed to the real name has grown over the years.
