Of course he will play.

He just played 2 qtrs of intra club didn’t he?

First real game is still 5 weeks away.

The only reason he wouldn’t play is if he got a new injury in the next month.
Great. Just wanted to reassure myself I can get excited about seeing him and the rest of the backline with Barrass and Battle, from round 1!

I hear what you are saying, but I still think there's a place for quick of mind extractors especially those they have quick skilled runners to pass off to. Look at Pendles and Wines, they have eked out decent careers with comparable speed.
I remember a young player that had this nickname early in his career. Friend of mine said he was a one trick wonder that would get found out. I think he works for Hawthorn now......

Why is our midfield ranking so low?

Our forward line is obviously the weakest. The midfield got especially good at delivery in the second half of the year and the small forwards clicked. But we lack a key forward who forces defences to contest with him, although Dear came on surprisingly strong on that respect.

Our mids should be top five. Forward line mid pack. Defence top two.

I think he was enjoying a few cold ones when he typed that up.

Day might go forward for stints to expose MacKenzie and Ward in the middle for more minutes?

Ramsden could be an option to play next to Chol in our forwardline, but he needs to take the chance and kick a few goals, the only negatives could be the oppositions rebound out of defence could be easier which is the trade off?, he has had a few chances and hasnt grabbed the chance and made his presence felt, he needs to take the chance imo.

Max Ramsden article
Max definitely has come back this summer looking more athletic and looks more comfortable jumping into packs to take a mark.

Only 21, 6’8, big tank, excellent below the knees. Article said he has put on 15kg since arriving which was around 86kg from memory 🤔

Could be a big surprise providing a target up forward. If he doesn’t mark it brings it to ground for smalls, ability/tank to run up to the wing at times and chop out in the ruck. For team balance could be picked for round 1 …… practise games coming up could be the deciding factor.

(Unless he has made significant strides in his development this off-season) Reeves cannot play as a resting forward/ruck. He's not good enough in the air or nor mobile enough around the ground.

If we are going for a tall option that could pinch hit in the ruck, then surely Ramsden gets a chance. We already have Chol playing too.

Disagree with that.
Reeves definitely isnt a contested mark up forward, but he was the only player actually leading to space during the dark period of rd 1-5. Problem was the mids lacked any confidence to actually kick to a lead.

I'd be interested to see how he could preform given the chance to be on the end of a confident midfield.

I think people like seeing stars’ names in midfields rather than assessing how balanced it is. No one will ever say someone like Nash is a star but having a big brute like him in there allows silky Will Day to be even sillkier etc.

A midfield of Newcombe, Day, Massimo, Meek, worpel is ranked twelfth?? Love to see the higher ranked 11 midfields in the comp!!!
I don't care about this. Even opposition supporters mention this. I don't care about opinions I only care about results. If we are winning games who cares if no one rates us

For a lot of opposition supporters and media ‘experts’ it is a coping mechanism. Seen it play out in the same fashion for many decades and iterations of champion Hawthorn teams.

Give us Premierships. They can please themselves with other incidentals.

Yep.

Ranking midfields (or forward / backlines) is completely pointless.

Ranking midfields (or forward / backlines) is completely pointless.

It's simply a function of supercoach/fantasy and draft picks.

We have a very effective midfield that does damage rather than rack up stats so our guys are very rarely at the top of fantasy stats (ala Fremantle with Serong, Brayshaw and Young).

We also have a starting midfield with one latish first round pick (Day) and psychologically, Nuke (mid season), Nash (cat B), Worpel (40s), Mass (mid season), Meek (trade) doesn't generate the hype.
