2025 player moves - ins and outs

Hallo, Smyth and Cherry all wanting to get to FTG to play with Jaidyn, but all signed at Mitcham already. Mitcham are filthy. Going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
That would be interesting, are they sure he'll be there in 2026 when Balwyn, Vermont, Deer Park and the like come calling..... and they will.

Nathan Wright has left Beaconsfield to return to Chelsea Heights.

True, but his salary would come out of their cap right? or maybe they could give it to him over 2-3 even 4 years instead. The NFL or MLB had a guy still getting paid 15 years after he last played for them over a restructured contract

Amazing, like winning Tattslotto every year for 24 years. And in addition he also gets $500K every year for 25 years. Very astute agent, he probably gets his fee each year and would have lots of other players asking him to be their agent.

Pathetic from the players if true.

You signed a contract, you’re playing there.

I wouldn’t be clearing them.
Do clubs have any leg to stand on when players try to leave a club in November and December after signing a contract in September or October? I noticed that Tom Jackson young North Ringwood ruckman was announced as a re-signing on their Facebook on 13th of October. Then yesterday saw that he has been announced as a signing at Watsonia in the northern league. Similar to Appleby and Hudson signing at Heathmont after being announced as re-signings at their previous clubs.

They do have a leg to stand on but it seems common practice at the moment. If the player is already at your club you could block their transfer for sure. But it rarely seems to happen now. Maybe it rarely ever happened before.

Clubs are generally pretty pragmatic when it comes to these things also, if a player moved from the suburb of Wantirna to Point Cook because they were going to be working in Werribee for the next year clubs would facilitate a transfer to a local club on that side of town.

It gets tricky where 3 clubs are involved. If a player played at CLUB A in 2024 and was announced in September he had signed with CLUB B for 2025 before he had been transferred (which is common) but then in October decided to sign with CLUB C, there is nothing CLUB B can do.

But if a player signs at his home club where he is registered at like Mitcham and then decided to go to FTG because they signed an ex AFL player, Mitcham has every right to deny the transfer as the player has signed a contract for 2025. But after a few meetings in the next week between player and club I'm almost certain we will see a number of signed Mitcham players land at FTG for 2025.

If the player has signed a contract then the club can enforce it and deny transfer. So they certainly do have a leg to stand on.

Up to the club if they want to do it.

If Mitcham were confident they could quickly replace the players then they may clear them and do so. Otherwise they may simply say you’re signed and you’re staying, let’s get on with it and you’re free to leave in 12 months time.
