Also 2.861 20m sprint at draft camp - Best overall... also would have been fastest in the year priors draft testing.

Almost Max Holmes 20m dash time.

The Saints did draft Sam Hastie who is also a speedy rebounder in the 2023 draft (Geelong Falcon).

Maybe they were happy to pass on Hofmann due to already having Hastie (I know little about Hastie FYI).

Hopefully it's a massive error on their behalf.

Angus Hastie. Who is going well so far.

Wouldn't say we stuffed up even if he does become a gun

We essentially passed on Hofmann for Alex Dodson (who we didn't expect to slide that far) who has also started really well with us as a future ruck prospect

A Patrick Said or a different small forward was always a part of our plans

Likely a win-win for both parties
Nobody can definitively say “you stuffed up not matching on Hofmann” because it’s way too early for that.

I just say “I hope you stuffed up”.

Time will tell and proof will be in the pudding.

I’m currently happy we have Hofmann though.

The lack of De Koning photos makes me a little worried.
Seems as though this is the guy they have ear-marked as the future full back of our defense.

Probably need one more tall defender in the coming draft (if Sam does explore offers from another club) as with Blicavs about to retire, Henry a little undersized, we're one short for the long-term.

There's been photos of sdk. Also he's old news regardless. COS a good marketing angle

Sam training in the ruck. Could be that COS being ready means we have that flexibility.

De koning will be the starting ruck.

I'm here because a Cats fan enquired in our thread about Hofmann

My guess is we passed on him because we had already taken Travaglia, Tauru, and Barrat as best available types. There was no way we were going to pick another defender over addressing our next list needs - which was a small forward (Patrick Said) and a ruckman (Dodson)

Another limitation to Hofmann is although he's athletic, it seemed he lacked upside being limited to a lockdown medium defender role or rebounder. Doesn't really have scope to become a mid either. He might be one of those guys that debuts early and is a good citizen for the years to come but never becomes a star (in our case like Jimmy Webster)

Someone asked about physical issues in an earlier post - he had a serious shoulder injury in 2023

I was a fan of Hofmann prior to the draft so wish him all the best with you guys. Will probably win more premierships now that he's at the Cats than he would've had the Saints matched :tearsofjoy:

The only question long term will be the guys you picked earlier in the draft over someone you had dibs on. The other thing that is a bit gauling is the complaints of not having FSons etc ..then passing on someone you had in a similar way. Long term who knows … who a player is drafted to really is not as important as it once was. Once uncontracted players and clubs will look at options...

What do you think of Hastie?

The complaints about FS weren't about the concept itself, but more about higher draft pick FS being matched with a 20% discount on DVI. For draftees beyond pick 56 (I think) you just need a list spot to match but even that isn't really a discount because they're bid on that late for a reason and the talent is extremely even late in the draft

Compare Ashcroft vs Hofmann (assuming Saints match Hofmann). The 20% discount on Ashcroft benefitted the Lions so much more than what a discount on Hofmann would've benefitted the Saints because you can just take an equally talented player at that point in the draft

On Hastie, he's been really good the past couple of weeks after being on limited duties early Jan. Very quick and beautiful user; makes good decisions. Still a bit thin but should get some good game time this year

Given this is a “broad” PS Chat…. I always find it interesting in footy weddings to see who from the team is invited. Can’t invite the whole list and coaches with plus 1s so they need to choose those with closest connection.

For Jezza most are around his vintage…and we know how close he is to Brad (pun intended - sorry!). Other than that it looks like from the younger brigade is is Ollie and Tanner where that connection is…maybe from that YouTube farm video!!

Nothing negative against those not there but I find it interesting anyway…

I'm no agricultural veterinarian but to me those look like some good looking young roosters

Does anyone know if match sim vs Hawks on Feb 17th is open to public

Or do we have to wait for community game bs Essendon?
