Nick Dal Santo wasn’t the flashiest or most exciting player. He rarely “won a game on his own boot”. He didn’t take speckies or kick wonder goals. He didn’t have an incredible step or a fend off.

But he was player with no clear weaknesses. He did everything well. Excellent kick. Great tank. Knew how to rack up disposals. Won his own ball. Great decision maker. Good games sense. Would pop up for a goal. Was a good leader.

I think we need more of that type of reliably very good player. We’ve had just a few too many players with devastating capabilities, breathtaking in moments but who go missing or flake or baffle or seemingly give up.
Physicality and marking were slight chinks in NDS armour imo.

I started reading your post and almost typed exactly the bold before getting to it. Was not the best at anything IMO, but did almost every skill to a very high level. Ultimate all rounder. If Powell can get to a similar level he will be a huge asset and great player to have when you lose someone to injury - plug him anywhere and he can perform.
Rarely missed a target. Always kicked within himself like Boomer which is why they were so accurate. The roost to no-one is an anachronism in today’s football. There is always an opposition sweeper.

I'm far from LMac's biggest fan, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that every photo of him at training is just him smiling or laughing. Does he even football?

Just compare the shape his arms and legs are in compared to the players in the previous 5 slides.

Except it wasn't to the media. It was conversations that Larkey had with them in private, and then Larkey mentioned it during the presser

I guess Larkey is just full of shit
Yeh mate he is.
Cause now Larkey is leaking private conversations with his new teammates directly to the media???

Don't be so naive mate. The club is on record as saying they want to bring in these players to help lift the club on the field and on the training track. They aren't there for shit and gigs

Training standards look poor when the team is hopeless on game day.

The experience brought in have definitely got elite training standards to pass on but more importantly stabilise the 22 players that go out there. Bit like what Larkey said.

Training well is what every club does anyway but on game day, the best teams often have experience on every line that know exactly what to do at any given time. Our experienced players didn't do that.

Leaking private conversations? Lol... You say that like he's betraying their trust.

I expect that training standards have taken a jump in the last 12 months due to the influx of young players, some leading by example and the competition for spots on the field next season.

So, I'm not surprised that the new senior players are noticing higher standards than they expected.

You only have to listen to Curtis Taylor talk about how impressive the new young players like sheezel mckercher are to realise we had a bunch of powder puffs punching the clock expecting it to happen, rather then driving to achieve it

I very much doubt Parker and Daniel would have rocked up day 1 pre season and said f*** what a bunch of shitcampaigners. Or maybe they did.

Regardless they are there to drive change.
It’s time to get serious.

As for not shitting on their new teammates, simply put our leaders would know they have work to do.
This isn’t ground breaking stuff.

You’re only ever as good as your last match and right now we have so much to prove come round 1.
I’ll rest my judgement on standards until I see a team playing competitively for points when the new season begins.

Until then forgive me if I don’t get sucked in to the word coming from the club, but after 5 years of bottom 2 finishes I wouldn’t say supporter trust in this group is high. That’s just stating facts.

You don't pay pick 25 for a guy to provide leadership if you rate your current leadership.

Ahead of the 2025 season the Roos will also play a match simulation against Melbourne on the weekend of February 22 & 23. Further details about the match simulation, including the venue, will be announced in due course.
