We did well with a really bad run of injuries to best 23. Only question mark is how we look without Joe.

Fish prefers Doedee over Lester
Smith over Day
Levi over Fletcher
And Coleman comes in for Answerth

Sub: One of the emerg.

I just don't see Doedee coming straight into a premiership side without seeing how he handles the VFL.
.................................................

With so much quality sitting outside of the premiership players, this is a difficult team to select. Ryan Lester was a finals hero and will play plenty of games, but the club recruited Tom Doedee for a reason and his best should see him win a spot. Like Doedee, Keidean Coleman will return from a ruptured ACL and is in the best team, but who he ultimately replaces is anyone's guess. Noah Answerth proved a perfect defensive complement in September and would be mighty unlucky. Levi Ashcroft's addition forces another squeeze, and that's not even accounting for another ACL returnee in Lincoln McCarthy. Coach Chris Fagan also has to fill the gaping void left by the retiring Joe Daniher and young Henry Smith's ability to both play forward and ruck could give him the nod here. At full strength, Brisbane has an embarrassment of riches. - Michael Whiting

Fish must be drunk on hot cross buns; seriously squeezing Jaspa out, a specialist wingman one of our better finals series players over someone who has never played an AFL game or any other ins is seriously laughable.

And then Doedee over Lester; rightio, one has barely put a foot wrong in 12 months and played in a GF and the other has barely got on the park in two years and is the preferred option. :drunk:

I think Jaspa plays, but suspect a fully fit Doedee gets the nod over Lester. There's if Doedee gets fully fit of course.

Levi is pretty much a OR/Round 1 starter. Sadly that means one of our premiership players will be squeezed out of the side, like what happened when Will started in 2023 Rd. 1

If you view Levi as a best 23, you need to drop someone. Jaspa is about as droppable as others people have mentioned (Ah Chee, etc). Otherwise the answer is actually "how can Fish view Levi as best 23?"

For our best team it makes sense tbh.
  • Deodee will eventually take over from Frog, just a matter of when/if he can get his body right.
  • Smith is the most likely back up option here if we want a like for like replacement, or if Day isn't that good to cement a full spot.
  • Kiddy is back instantly. Our BoG in the '23 GF
  • Levi is an instant starter based on the comments surrounding him before the draft.

Or he comes in for Joe
That's nice and all, but realistically Fagan is going to shove three talls down our throat again and we're going to like it.

Old man walking around with a big ego as if he won a premiership or something.

Levi is that good, I'd be shocked if he plays VFL. He isn't just someone who has never played a game.

Who gets squeezed is beyond me but he plays.

Kiddy was amazing, until he disappeared. I love him but he really needs to show he can run out games. If he is in that means Zork is out. Or Answerth, which I think would be a major mistake and make our back line too offensive and unable to lock down run ons.

I’m not knocking Levi out at all, but Jaspa has barely put a foot wrong either and shouldn’t be discounted but granted that it may not come down to Levi or Jaspa.

It is a long season and thankfully like last year we have good quality depth to cover injuries.

If Day is fit and playing okay in the intraclub and the 2 official AFL preseason games, he starts round 1 for mine.
Lots of reasons but number 1 would be he is not injured so gets to play. Need to get games out of him while we can.
Who knows he may play all season, but recent history would be against that happening. We can hope.

Fish listed his best 22 but i don't think Smith is better than Day.
Smith's potential could be high we just need to see how he progresses in 2025.
One younger and hopefully improves again in 2025. The other older and more experience but injury prone.
