Wow....HO'K becoming a bit of a beast before our eyes. Only just turned 20yo yesterday (happy b'day big fella) - AND has a fair bit of mongrel in him to top it orff JustaBattler 😉

If he can stay fit, I can see him getting a gig at some stage during 2025.

His athletic ability warrants a trial at centre half back in VFL.

A TDK HOK combo sounds a little bit too awesome.

Interested to see how HOK goes this year though, I imagine he'll attract some rival interest if he continues to develop from what he showed last year. Fairly smart footballer on top of being a good athlete.

He certainly has an impressive build now. I'm told his ground work, follow up & contested play are of a very high standard. Aerially however he's still a work in progress. Doesn't command the ball in the air like a TDK has developed into his game and has quite 'hard' hands...or in other words, he's not a natural at marking the ball. Often spills the mark in a contested situation.

Ollie still taking forever to get boot to ball in training. Ridiculous he and they can’t sort that most basic of skills out.
I understand your point. Ollie has the habit of focussing on the target as opposed to slamming it on the boot. He does take more, often too much time. I feel there is some contribution from the players upfield he is looking to link with and perhaps a bit of structural consideration as well.

Thinking moving Ollie to the backline as a running rebounder will in itself improve the situation. He can be and indeed is, a very good kick when he can balance up.

I keep hoping we change up our run and spread, option should present quickly rather than have the kicker despairing for viable targets. Not just Ollie related.

I'd ask which player hasn't improved their kicking from year 1 to 5? They all improve. There are always going to be those guys that are and are not elite kicks. You're mixing that up with zero improvement. Carrazzo for example couldn't hit the side of a barn to start off with but would compare favourably to our current mids for kicking efficiency by the latter stages of his career.

Ollie in defence will be exposed by opposition teams. Will be taken to the last line of defence and is not great physically if exposed one on one.
You just hand off your opponent to someone else if that happens. Daicos played as an attacking HB and didn't see him on the last line of defence once

I actually like that he doesn’t mind getting smashed disposing of the ball, too many players play hot potato and the inherent issues that happen with disposal efficiency.

Really? He enamoured himself to the blues faithful doing plenty of gutsy things in the backline

Yep. Plus, you could argue this vulnerability is more exposed more on a wing where you are often alone with your opponent then in the backline where you defend as a team.

Ollie isnt weak defensively anyway. He competes hard. Might not win alot of one on ones but generally finds a way to breakeven. Thats enough given his role in the backline.

FYI - One of our track watchers in Maroochydore said he saw Saad do a hammy today. We're training next door.

Bummer. Becoming a bit of an issue for him.

Every team has defenders who aren't supposed to be getting into one on ones and structures up to avoid this.

Max Holmes isn't a great one on one defender, but is used extensively at Half-back as an avenue to launch offense etc.

i think he's a brave kid who is excellent at defewnsive running and joing a contest from his primary position, has clearly taken Acres' example well but that is not the same thing as being a primary part of a defensive structure, facing the ball.

Not to say he can't btw, just that his efforts as a defensive sweeper are not analagous to the 'pure' HB role

Can I suggest then giving him a chance before deciding with no evidence he can’t do it…just a thought

i literally didn't

Not sure about these days but I used to do the stats for the 2s which scored me an invite into the senior box a few times. One of the stats they measured was the number of blocks we put on for Judd. Yes he was a freak but a part of me thought it was a bit stiff for other mids and a bit messiah complex

There's an old story that during Judd's days at WC he should have given Rowan Jones half his Brownlow medal for all the blocks Jones did for Judd.

Don't think clubs think like that so much any more.

After watching the ground resurfacing update on the club site, i gave the club a call to inquire about the grounds completion and availability for the club/players when resuming back next year…
Was told that the ground surface will be ready to go, preseason training will commence back on IKON Park mid January sometime…

On talks around his future:

"I’ve grown up playing with a bunch of these boys since I got drafted and we’ve stuck together and grown up in the Club together, and I’m really loving my footy with them. The more games we play together, the more cohesion we get.

"My main focus is playing my role for the team, listening to what Vossy and the coaches have to say for me and the rest will take care of itself when it happens."
