I know its only highlights but Lucas Campo just looks so comfortable out there. I reckon he plays next year at some stage. Impressive for a skinny kid taken in the 50s.
Yep. That first 'steal' was impressive. Looks like a hard worker and all over the ground.
Also, Billy Wilson's steal and attack on the footywas an impressive highlight.
Pity he was sold into trouble with the handball receive and straight into a the tackle at the end.

Going out on a limb, but I’d prefer Wilson at HB as opposed to Ollie.
Im extremely keen on seeing Wilson but would prefer him off a wing tbh. Ollie looked a natural down there at the end of the year and was surprisingly damaging with his kicking.

For me our wings have been too defensive so I'd like to see Binns, Wilson or Lucas tried there as more naturally offensively minded players.

Well that is grim if he is one of our best because as a midfielder role he was ranked ranked 140+ for disposal efficiency in 2024, and for the inside 50 kick which leads to goal assists 61st where even Mason Wood and Powell did better than him.

Nothing wrong calling him a dual brownlow medalist and champion player, but we dont have to pretend he is a good at inside 50 kicks and goal assists. He just isnt.

Of course, if we were talking stoppages and clearances that is another thing totoally!

Again again - Cripps is one of our best F50 kicks. If you want to go off GA then he's 6th in our team and 4th for goals. Miles in front for score involvements.

Highlights improve but boy does it look sloppy. Looks like we're going with 'move it as fast as possible at all costs' approach. Will be interesting to see how this goes against real opposition who plan against us.

Looked like a D grade suburban team to be honest. Although if a suburban team was butchering the ball like that the coach would probably just call off training and go to the pub.

It's not like they're taking it too seriously but not great to watch.

Wilson has yet to find consistency at VFL level, that needs to be his first step
I am very bullish on Wilson and others, but absolutely this. Billy is a great kid, but at the moment is a VFL highlights reel. We are stacked for options old and “new”. Positions must be earned. I will, however, say these kids ideally need opportunity early to ascertain where they are at.

We have 16 players 21 and under, which is a very healthy number. 2025 will likely become make or break for a couple on the score of pure numbers.

Ollie Hollands, Jesse Motlop and Lachie Cowan are, broadly speaking, established senior squad players.

High profile draftee Jagga Smith is surely next in line.

Ashton Moir, Cooper Lord and possibly Jaxon Binns are the next tier. That is they are ready if and when opportunity arises.

With a good run pre season and in early rounds Billy Wilson is probably next cab off the rank, along with the big boys Harry Lemmey and Hudson O’Keeffe who will look to elevate their “rankings” to become prominent VFL players off the back of excellent pre seasons and greater physical maturity.

It is not hard to find positive reports in Ben and Lucas Camporeale. In years gone by they would be in the discussion for early games, but with some older boys already pushing for opportunity in their roles, it is likely they will receive a solid grounding in the twos before receiving opportunity.

Beanpole Harry O’Farrell is also showing up well in pre season with good game instincts, but it is hard to see opportunity knocking before he adds a little size to his frame. Being an excellent interceptor, he may be an outside chance for games early, but likely we will look to build a contested element before giving him the nod.

Harry Charleson is likely to fly under the radar on fan boards, but is an excellent prospect, with the rare trait among draftees these days of being able to lock down an opponent as well as rebound run. Very solid prospect who will come in to his own.

If he can get some continuity, I am all for Wilson getting some introductory games, but it is hard to see him becoming a staple in 2025.

The Irish boys will be an interesting watch. Unlikely to get opportunity this coming season. Duffy will be a third tall or possible even be groomed to play key position behind the ball. Monahan had the first half of his initial year wasted, trying to introduce him as a forward first. Now deployed back, the tried and true introduction route for Irish converts, I am expecting significant improvement, but he is coming from a long way back.

We have some excellent kids coming through, but also have a very solid list of established players. I am always looking at opportunity to incorporate generation next, but it will likely be a slow process. Our coach is certainly not renown for promoting the youngsters.

Given the quality and composition of our list, there are more likely opportunities for youth in our forward line compared to other areas of the ground. With a ack of established options, it's why I believe Moir will stake a claim

Setting aside tall backmen, Wilson is currently behind any 4 of Gov, Newman, Saad, Cowan, Boyd, Ollie, Doc. And, I have Lucas the next cab off the rank ahead of Wilson

Through the middle, while behind Walsh, Cerra, Hewett, Cripps, I have Jagga ahead of Lord, but he is certainly in the mix. Binns is also currently behind Acres, and depending on setup, Doc and Ollie

HOK, isn't far away and I would feel confident him playing 2nd fiddle behind TDK, if Pitto was injured or out of form

Whilst I dont have any intel on this, I just cannot help but feel from all the interviews and reports getting out from the club that both Jagga and Lord are going to be played early. Whether they are second rotation or can break into the starting mid mix, I just think the club will make room for both with their potential to transform our midfield.

I think Lord may be pushed into that defensive mid role that Hewett plays so well. But it does mean Hewett may need to play a second position at times. But the question remains, what would that position be?? Maybe a tagging role on the oppo creative half back? Is he fast enough to do such a role?

Jagga, even though it is just training, just always seem to find space. I actually think he will have no trouble fitting in at AFL level and really add something special to our mix. But at the expense of who? Such a great problem to have.

It just so exciting to be contending next year and yet still have so much talent knocking down the door looking for opportunity. I wonder if anyone is still upset at the club for not going after Houston? I personally cannot be any more proud of the decisions and directions of the club in recent times. We look to be setup for sustained success!

EHollands has increased his running capacity this pre-season.
Could it be a combination of Doc/Eli as the best wings alongside Acres?

Still see Doc and Oli competing against each other as our best multi-position options.(interchange players)

Agree with your ranking of young players in terms of likelihood to play senior team.

The issue I see is how do we (Voss) rank the established senior players and how many are locks and can hold their place when form drops off?.

Tier 1 Locks (14 players)?
Cripps, Weitering, Newman, Saad, McGovern, Acres, Walsh, TDK, Cerra, Harry, Charlie, Elijah, Williams, Hewett.

Tier 2 - Need good form to hold AFL spot?
(7 players).
Kemp, Boyd, Haynes, JSOS, Docherty, Fogarty, Cottrell….

Tier 3 - Kids prioritised for AFL games.
Cowan, Motlop, Ollie, Jagga, Lord, Moir, Corey.

That’s 28 players that will make it difficult for the likes of Wilson and Binns to get much AFL exposure this year, unless Voss imposes a stricter form requirement for players.

I could see Wilson overtaking Boyd. Both good kicks but Wilson shown more ability to accumulate and is faster. I think Lucas will begin his career on a wing spot just based on where he has been training. I reckon Wilson could play early if a few things go his way, though he isn't in my side atm. Not far off.

The hard thing with pecking orders is players can play multiple positions, and you never know who the coaches will shuffle around. Like, if Doc and Acres start wing round 1, with ollie at half-back, you might think Lucas and Binns are one injury away from being selected. However, for all we know, if Doc/Acres get injured, Ollie goes back to a wing, and someone comes in to play halfback. Or if Lord doesn't make the round 1 team, it might seem he is 1st in if we have a midfield injury, but we could just as easily give more midfield minutes to E.Hollands or Jagga and bring someone in to cover their roles.

Going out on a limb, but I’d prefer Wilson at HB as opposed to Ollie.
I'd still like to see Ollie in the side (maybe off the bench) but I'm also very interested to see what Wilson can do.
Not sure I'd put him straight in for round 1 but he looks the goods and will be pressing hard you'd imagine.

I hope Wilson gets a lot of games this year - he looks primed and ready, and it wouldn't hurt to have his speed either :D
I’m a massive fan of Wilson. Will add pace and aggressive running to our group. Which is what we lack. Also a good kick.

I posted him as my big improver a while ago. Admittedly on hope more than anything I’d seen this preseason. Although he looked good in the latest training vids

it’ll be a welcomed sight if we can rotate some fresh faces through the senior side throughout the year. They may not necessarily play all the games, but seeing the likes of Wilson, Moir, Binns, Lord, Smith etc rotating through will build their development and confidence and give us more options.

If they are in form in the twos and others are continuously played in the ones out of form I’ll lose my shit.
Needs to be a whole list high performance metric, you don’t play well for a couple of weeks you go out for someone who is playing well.

Additionally, if someone is not quite right and needs a rest (and that includes Crippa, Walsh, Charlie, H et al) and there is someone knocking the door down in the twos then for god sake give them a rest
