Harry on GuesSEN ...

On which youngster has impressed:

“Jagga Smith is pretty impressive as a kid. He’s the one everyone will go to. As a high pick you know he can play footy, but the way he has approached training, he’s got time for everybody, wants to learn and get better which I love and in terms of a footballer, he’s got some serious talent.

“The way he moves and covers the ground, he’s a fierce competitor. At this stage, everyone is excited about what he might bring, but also in the same breath he’s a first-year player and it doesn’t matter how well you train, there’s ups and downs and things to learn and work on throughout your first few years.

Do love hearing that we're training with a defensive forward on Weits, think its a tactic that a lot of teams will try. Especially Hawthorn who did it with great success last year, although not a lot went right for us that day.

Also Motts taking a couple of rotations through the middle, sounds like we may be a little bit more dynamic this year.

Match sim today according to kemp on triple M. Hopefully hear about SOs as he said he’s integrating into the match sim today
I'm probably more interested in what the wing/hb situation is. Does Doc stay on a wing or move back, opening the door for someone like Binns, or something else entirely.

I went down to training today
5 x 15 minute quarters and one 10 minute

Observations
  • Jagga is a star, evasiveness is top tier butters like quality. Knows how to find the footy, absolute certain round 1 and will rotate on ball and half forward this year
  • Orazio Fantasia was the best small forward today by a country mile. Looks like his Essendon days may be back. Our answer to the Matthew owies void
  • Ben Campo is very impressive for someone who was pick 43, his talent exceeds that. Tough never fumbles, if he can fix his kicking to just afl standard he’s a 200 gamer
  • Cerra looks back to 2023 form and if not for number 9 would be my tip for the bnf this year. Could be a year where we see the whole midfield flying at once finally
  • Lord and Hewett are interesting. I’d say right now Hewett isn’t in the side, think he makes way for younger talent. Lord impressive all day
  • Haynes is a weapon and underrated pickup in the media. Gonna improve our intercepting abilities massively
  • Doc played half back, on ball and wing and was on the white team all match sim. Looked like doc
  • Walsh and Charlie looked like they could’ve been part of the match sim but being conservative
  • Williams didn’t train but didn’t see any sign of an injury, Boyd the same
  • HOK beat Pitto head to head and had a nice rucking goal. TDK didn’t ruck much but still got a fair amount of the pill
  • Binns was solid but acres dominated and looks primed for another solid year
  • Moir + Motlop didn’t do an awful lot but that’s the nature of the position
  • Ollie, Haynes and Gov took kick ins, personally think it’s Gov and Gov only

Healthiest I’ve seen us at this time of year

Think our midfield is the best in the comp with the addition of Jagga

Team wise kicking was very solid and much improved from the sloppy kicking we saw in December
This squad is tough and get a few bruises, but no one is matching our contested ability

If healthy in 25’ skies the limit

If Pitto is already getting beaten by HOK then we’ll need to ship him off asap

Let’s re-sign TDK first, maybe get HOK through a solid season in the VFL and maybe “blooded” in the top team.

I don’t disagree Pitto becomes excess if and when the younger player matches him, but what a brutal take from the report.

Pitto is the perfect back up. Solid as a rock when needed but limited enough to avoid any oppo teams offering him a big contract we'd have to match.

Be happy seeing him on our list for the next 3-4 years as a back up option on decent coin. Dunno why we'd be in a rush to bugger him off.

Yeah, and would also be nice to know who they were each rucking to before writing Pitto off.

Also, it's training - who knows what direction they were given.

Don’t you mean moves at the speed of a rock. He’s a very limited player that offers nothing around the ground.

Thanks heaps. Was there a stronger and weaker team? If so, any surprises?

Interesting Doch played everywhere. Maybe his position comes down to who else we want to fit in the team.

Think it was mostly probables versus possibles with a few people rotating into both teams. think that was the case just to make teams somewhat fair. Hewett seemed to be in the possibles which I wasn’t expecting, it was mostly him and lord versus Cripps Jagga cez and a bit of Ben campo

Mots also got goes on ball at times

Definitely forwards and backs were the usual suspects, matty carroll was a surprise defender in the suspected probables and looked at home as well
