My understanding is that Flex will replace your lowest on field score, doesn't need to be a zero for flex to kick in.
Yes, but you would want to maximise your Flex with some loop actions

Agree with this.

Smith has his faults as a player, but he's always been super fit so TOG shouldn't be an issue.

He's been out for 18 months and will be chomping at the bit to start well. Strange fade given his ownership will be massive.
Not convinced fading Smith will hurt as much as it might with other players.
Even if he becomes a must have early, he will only have put on max 50k by his bye and should top out in low 500k. Not unreachable by any stretch.

His bye is round 3 so he won’t even move in price until after. It’s definitely a valid strategy to fade him and then correct to him after round 3 if he looks good. I don’t think he’s that likely to go massive in his first 2 games at a new club after so long off so you’re unlikely to get burnt badly by not having them. And even if he does go well in the first 2 rounds you’ll gain points over everyone else when he has the bye and you have rankine or whoever else

Plan on taking the cash saved and putting it into another midfielder. The upside on taking say:
Oliver and a rookie fwd, compared to Smith and Mid rookie.
Only magnified when the bye is taken into consideration.
Also, Smith is cheap enough to sideways into after his bye without compromising structure.

So the big question is. Are emergencies onfield being on the bench or are they sitting in the stands watching the game.

Reason is this could cancel out VC/C loophole plays later (would like to start with a full bench of playing rookies).

Need Al Patton to clarify this.

Warming to 6 deep mids, counting Peatling.

May go down one and add a defender though still.

Current side is 5 deep defenders, 6 mids 2 rucks, only 3 fwds.

Not sold on all these fwd bargain options, lowest averages in this line (a 95 is considered ok to great)..
It is always easiest line to upgrade after Rd6 DPP changes.
Think we are being sold 24K gold when the fwds are only gold plated and will rub us up the wrong way after a couple of wears.

Going to spend more trade energy getting finished Defenders then Flex then Mids. Fwds can eat a Chol.

Quite happy with side structure with lots of DPP bench options.
First team predicted over 1910 - not that that means anything.
16 possible keepers.
And only 1 first year rookie onfield.
Some differentials and a few early bye players though still based on most similar teams.

Maybe I got the lucky code this year and started with $11mil.

Can’t post this side it is like the recipe for Coke, going to be kept in a safe.

First crack at the side without really looking into anyone else’s.

Defense and mids first picture:

Sheezel a no brainer, Sicily is a watch whether forward or back. If defense he will play a third tall general defender where he has dominated. Mills big upside but injury questions, same with Coleman so could change. Rookies in the air but all seem there abouts in terms of roles and being picked.

Bontempelli a no brainer best choice in the midfield, Butters could be anyone but have him for now, a gun. Newcombe my pick to break out but going to watch Hawthorn structure with him and Day, as it could be a choice of either. Oliver for his price is a clear choice, training well and back to his best will be unreal. Good crop of rookies onfield and off the bench.

Rucks and forwards + flex:

Rucks up in the air at this stage but both good options and others like Meek, Darcy could be good.

Reid/Boyd loop and see who is picked R0

Horne Francis keeper and the best premo forward option, big mid minutes. Rankine I haven’t seen many pick but will play a good chunk in the middle and a good scorer. Macrae with midfield time will be a steal, as will Smith, most would have both. Phillipou dominating in the middle and ready to breakout. Daniel distribution role off half back tyvm.

Lynch injuries a ❓but cheap and if he plays all the games as he will if fit, will be good, Kako scoring could be iffy but will likely play.

Interested to see opinions.

Latest update after the injury news:

Holmes -> Clark
Z.Reid -> Milera (D5)
Maric -> NOD
Boyd > A.Reid
Phillipou -> Maric

$70.6k itb

Clark: owned him last year, happy to jump on again
Milera: is fit and firing, played 22 games in 2023, think he'll be a great D5/D6
NOD: training well, rather take a chance on an older player than take another expensive 1st year-er
Boyd > A.Read: Boyd had ice on his pec/shoulder according to track watchers. Archer Reid is having a good preseason, with the lack of talls at the Eagles, I reckon he'll get some games this year.
Maric: if he has a half back role, he could rack up big numbers

I am not sure how Milera fits into the Crows defence.

I would assume the Crows back 6 would look something like this.

Hinge, Murray, Nankervis

Worrell, Butts, Laird

Plus the fact that he is injury prone, it is a huge risk.

I suppose with Laird going back the defence will look a little different. I do think Milera plays if he's fit though. Played 22 games in 2023, then had a freak accident last year. I just don't like the cheap options down back. If Milera plays and stays fit, he should be good for 70-75, and with the odd spike game, he can make good money. In 2023 he made it ~$450k.

Have Milera and Sinn at D5 and D6. If cheap rookies appear, then I'll downgrade, pocket $200k and use it elsewhere.

Mark Keane will be in that back 6.
What about Michalanney?

Brodie Smith is still around. Murray and Borlase played 10 games last year.

Hinge, Murray, Nankervis, Worrell, Butts, Laird, Keane, Milera, Smith, Murray, Borlase, who knows what they have in mind...

Now that Phillipou out for an extended rest will need a shuffle for most sides. Talk that Marshall carrying a couple of injuries really makes Boyd a huge option/cashcow
Boyd is an absolute lock if he plays in round 1. Apparently he had ice on his pec/shoulder after yesterdays horror training sesh/match sim. Hopefully it's not too serious.

Crows an interesting one- peatling, cumming, Neal Bullen, Laird, Couch, Draper. Who will get mid minutes and who gets pushed out. Keays, Dawson, Rankine, soligo, rankine, Dawson, Berry, Rachelle… can’t all get sustained mid minutes!

What?

If you have a DNP you get the emergencies score as one of your 23 scores. The lowest drops out.

Milera isn't an option mate. Just figure something else out. If he even makes it to round one uninjured it won't be long. There will be enough def rooks.

From reading reports my guess is Crouch, Dawson, Rankine, Peatling and Soligo are the main guys.

No way Milera gets in that defence now.

First draft for this season.

I don't mind the way this team looks.

I was going to fade Macrae but with the Phillipou news he in my team now.
