If the Cats make it clear that he's going to be the main ruck, I'll lock him in as a stepping stone. We get a look in rd0. Just need a couple spikes games and he'll make a heap of cash. I don't trust the Cats long-term, Conway, Blic and Stanley will get rucktime this year.

SDK will be first choice ruck was my reading and he's done some training as a fwd (assuming he is training to swap with Shannon Neale up fwd).

We might need to take a punt on an experienced player at D6:

Mullin $212k - Almost 25 yo and he's played 18 games now, including 2 finals last year. Another preseason under his belt. Is there a spot for him in this Cats side?
Williams $184k - Played 20 games in 2023. Apparently having a good preseason. Can he take Houston's spot?
Milera $254k - Played 22 games in 2023. Sounds like he's progressing well this preseason. He'll play if he's fit.
Logue $245k - Surely he plays if he's fit?

I currently have Goater at D6 but Paton might be an option. I've gone deep in def this year. Currently have Mills at D5. Lots of the rookie coin will come from the other lines this year IMO.

If SDK is primary ruck then he's a lock, with or without the R3 bye. I haven't put him in yet because I read the other day he was playing def and back up ruck to Conway. Will track closely.

After the Gibcus/ZReid debacle last year, I'm too scared to run young KPD on-field.

El-Hawli has the scoring potential, but I'm not convinced he automatically comes into that Bombers side (especially with Zerrett and Shiel getting time at half back this preseason).

Happy to take 2 cheapies on the bench, but I reckon I'll take a punt on more expensive players at D5 and D6 (currently Sinn + Trav, but that could be Milear + Mullin, or DylWilliams + somebody).

From what I've read, El-Hawlie is training on the wing.

Am I remembering correctly, was there some analysis floating around about cheap vs expensive rookies as a whole? Might have been a few years ago though. I remember we always avoided expensive rookies years ago, but in the last few years they've become really popular. Be interesting to see some analysis on how each price ranges performs as a whole from a points and cash gen perspective.

This is always a really interesting topic of conversation. The last few years you've had some high priced rookies that have scored well from the get go. (Walsh, Rowell, Naicos, Ashcroft to name a few). As has been alluded to on here though, I'd be more comfortable taking a high priced rookie who is in their second or third preseason. However, I generally avoid having high priced rookies on the bench, because if you are paying the coin for them, then you must think there is a reason, and my philosophy is, if you have a high priced rookie on your mid bench who you think will outscore an on field rookie in another position, then you are too heavy on the line you have the high priced rookie on the bench for.

What's the latest on Erasmus? With Bolton playing forward and Fyfe injured, surely he's first in line for the 4th or 5th mid rotation? His WAFL numbers last were massive (Peel won the granny and he was best-on).

I was reading about him last week. Seems to be going okay but sounds like his disposal is letting him down. From what i read, he's certainly not a walk up start for round 1.

Ramsden is a much better ruck than Chol and Nash, played as a pure ruck for a big chunk of last year in the VFL at a high standard. He has played a big portion forward but his ruck craft is high.
