Kingsley said those returning from suspension were t playing so it’s just whether Briggs and Hogan get named
Yes, he specifically said he wants to 'reward those players who have been getting the job done'. Most of us figured that would be the case and the returning players can push their case for selection in the VFL.

Barrass v Hogan will be box office.

Will you guys tag?
Most have gone to Day, D'Ambrosio and Sicily. Swans even tagged Watson.
I'm guessing, but I suspect Bedford will tag Day.

pretty much our best possible side.

Few coin tosses with XO/Wehr/Keefe and players like Riccardi/mcmullin/Thomas (should all force their way back in over the coming weeks) but the other 20 players in the side are locked in best 22 players.
Speaks highly of the depth we have. Also Fonti to come in - him on one wing, Whitfield on the other, salivating! Ofc, Ash fully deserves his starting spot.

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has backed Will Day to continue influencing AFL games as he braces for a battle with relentless GWS tagger Toby Bedford. Day has attracted close attention from opponents since turning heads with a scintillating first half in the Hawks' season-opener against Sydney. The 23-year-old midfielder tallied 19 disposals, five clearances and three goals before the Swans sent James Jordon to limit the damage. Essendon's Sam Durham and Mason Redman combined to restrict Day to 16 touches and a goal, and Carlton's George Hewett earned praise for his two-way job on the Hawks star.

Now Bedford looms as a likely match-up for Day in a huge clash between two early-season flag fancies in Launceston on Saturday night. "Will's been sat on pretty heavily the last couple of weeks and he's still been able to have a positive influence for the team," Mitchell said. "He perhaps doesn't have as prolific numbers as he did in the first half of the first game of the season. But if they go to someone it means they have to give up something else and we'll see if we can make that work for the team."

Bedford has enjoyed a strong start to the season, playing significant roles in the unbeaten Giants' wins over Collingwood and Melbourne. The hard-running tagger blunted Magpies superstar Nick Daicos before running with Demons guns Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

I think we might be a little too tall.
I hope to be proven wrong. Perhaps Kingsley agrees, but those players suspended for 2 games can't come in straight away.
I would agree. I would have preferred to keep Brown instead of Keeffe (despite his heroic winning goal). 2 talls, plus Stringer and Brown as mediums, then the smalls would be better balanced IMHO. Cadman and Brown could do relief rucking.

However, as someone else said, perhaps after his layoff, Briggs might play a little less and therefore need a bit more relief.

I should put in ex players section, but Haynes is playing sadly almost the worst game ever by an afl player. I think he should just retire. We just need to this year for GWS not repeat selection mistakes of last year, namely Haynes, injured Cogs.

Mate he was miles ahead of the game he played against the tigers

It’ll be interesting to see how much time Jake and Toby spend in the midfield. Centre bounce can be a weakness for us. These two are good centre bounce players.
Great point.
Plenty of options now to send through the middle. I think we are more likely to see Toby and Daniels to go into the middle for the first few games....but once he's worked into his fitness I think Stringer will get thrown in there too.

Our mid mix of Bedford, Kelly, Green and Callaghan is really clean and puts on a lot of defensive pressure.

Hawks (like us) aren't a great centre bounce team. I'm hoping we can win that battle like we did and give our forwards a good look at the 6v6.

So pumped up for tonight!

I also agree that we may be a bit tall but we do have enough speed to match the Hawks.

Fingers crossed, I'm smelling an upset.
Too tall due to Keeffe? Or Stringer? or both?
I rate the height against the Hawks. Gotta have weapons in the forward line and their defenders aren't huge. If Hogan ends up in 1v1s due to Cadman and Keeffe dragging talls out I think that's ideal.
Stringer v Battle is good too.

Both. Keefe deserves his spot after the heroics, no doubt. He would spend more time in the ruck to ease Briggs Imo.

The Hawks D have power and speed, and do transition incredibly well. Stringer needs to defend. Callum was unlucky to lose his spot but we have incredible depth.

If we have Hogan 2024 version, our aerial superiority will pay off. It's a big opportunity for Cadman to score a couple as the attention will be rightfully drawn to Hogan.
