List Mgmt. 2025 Trade/FA Thread

A whole lot of speculation and very little substance in that post.

The only thing which may point to having some inkling of 'inside information' or relevance is the statement that Cameron "... is in no hurry to get a deal done past 2026".

The rest is mere speculation.
Pretty much like most media reports on players contract negotiations.

And in this case, it is the HS, after all.

And now the Hun is reporting Cameron is keen to test the market and Carlton are keen on him if TDK leaves.

Yet another bit of reporting on our player contracts referencing Perryman's and Houston's salaries. Why does the money of Perryman and Houston affect Cameron's contract at all? Completely different roles.
It doesn't directly. Those players see what Perryman and Houston are receiving and then look for their own pay day. Here's a little reminder for old mate Ugene41 that I haven't forgotten our discussion from the last trade period.

You gave examples of Hill, Maynard, IQ and Cameron as examples of higher ranked players that might want more pay given the contract to Perryman. Except IQ is signed for another 5 years until 2029, Cameron comes out of contract when he is 31, and Maynard comes out of contract when he is 29. Apart from Hill at 26 y.o. and maybe Maynard at 29 y.o. coming out of contract in 2026, none of the others will be at their peak contract earning years. We have Naicos and Jaicos secured until 2029 and 2030 where a new EBA is likely to be in place.

This is what I mean by our salary cap demographic and clearly what the club has planned for. The high earners are skewed towards older players who when they come out of contract, are likely to result in a lower contract rather than higher. We don't really have any top tier under 23 year olds that's likely to come out of contract in a few years time at 25/26 years old that will demand a massive contract increase commensurate with FA type deals offered to Perryman.

Lo and behold not even 6 months on we have articles on consecutive days referencing 2 of the players discussed last year angling for pay increases. The issue with throwing obscene money at role players like Perryman is that better quality role players are going to use that as leverage in their next contract talks.

Spare me the whole "$800-900k is the new $650-750k" because Perryman was never a $650-750k player under the old CBA!

I don’t mind losing Cameron if we can get Moyle or Reeves. Ofcourse they’re not as good as Cameron, but if that allows us to get Rowell or a KPD I’m all for it.
Reeves is Fanning/ Richards poor. Bryan is the best of the guys that could seek opportunity if things went sideways, but it’s a hard pass on Reeves as an alternative. Even Moyle is suspect because he doesn’t do enough of the things we value in ruckman specifically the ability to intercept mark.

Why you gotta do me like that Sco 😭

Sorry mate you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette! He sat more in the $450-550k bracket so a rung below McStay and in the current CBA $650-750k range. We overpaid and these are the ramifications. Some were happy to wear that because that’s what’s required to attract FA’s, but there’s always a flow on effect.

FWIW I don’t think it’s insurmountable and my POV dating back to the trade period wasn’t that it’s going to impact our ability to retain those guys. It’s just going to put a handbrake on our ability to go out and get an LDU or Richards or Rowell. Unfortunately unlike Geelong we don’t have endless farms to give away.

Do you reckon he goes from 40 goals in 2025 to depth in 2026? I doubt we land Allen, but I suspect if we did they’d be planning around using all 4 when fit.
hypothetical, which forward misses out? We wont play 8 forwards unless beau goes permanently in the middle.
For example: Checkers. Allan. Mcstay. Membery. Schultz. Jamie. Hill. Beau
We're not even playing Cox because its too tall.
Unless we are thinking a retirement either checkers or Jamie?

Allen can play defence really well, could we be looking at him for that?

Not overly interested in Allen. Will cost a fair chunk of salary space and he’s quite injury prone. Our three pronged attack feels like a good balance, we’re better off putting that towards A-grade mids IMO.
Yeah I'd prefer we go for a kpd & an elite mid than Allen. Not sure which key defenders would be available tho..

One of them plays defence - particularly if Howe retires.

We would also be hoping that Steene or Roo kicks on. I’ve got a feeling Cameron will want to leave. He’s going to want to get paid- which is fair enough.

Don’t see why would we pay him 1 million when he’s 30 years old in 4 months. He could probably get a 4 million 4 year deal from WCE.

Would we do that?

Honestly I think you’re undervaluing Perryman a touch there, but regardless, we did overpay a touch, which is almost a requirement for free agents these days.
I’m not so sure that our current players are looking at his contract and wanting more rather than just knowing they’re worth more and due for a pay rise. Especially in the case of Hill and Cameron who are clearly underpaid now for their output.

Gut feel is our interest in Allen is manager driven in order to bump up his contract price.

Just out of interest who do we see retiring at the end of the year?

Edit: reason I ask is to see what salary cap we have to play with
