The one I have never understood is we could have slipped Rhyan Mansell straight onto that list. Maybe too early for him as it took a year in the SANFL for him to get to the Tigers but there for the taking and a free listing.
We’ve just been constantly poor in the cat b rookie space

But we just need to keep trying haven’t tried to get one for several years now, eventually one will hit

Low cost medium/high reward potential

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take

We had that Jefferies bloke from another sport (I was going to say a few years ago, probably closer to ten years). Rowing or something?
Yeah Jeffries, McGuiness and a few Irish one's during Scott's time. We've never really hit on a Cat B, so maybe that's why we don't bother doing it. I know a few taken by the Cats from basketball background that haven't worked (Joe Furphy) and then Dempsey was a hit for them. Rye Penny at Pies another. Plenty of them don't work out.
Does it count towards the cap? Maybe we're better off putting potential spend that into our NGA.

Well I'd probably rather put that potential Cat B money into retaining our young players then.
An extra $100k a year ain’t going to be the difference in keeping someone

Chump change

These cat b rookies earn the min wage to start with

It is more an issue for the soft cap and spreading our development coaches too thin. Cat B players will need more time invested into them and have a lower chance of success. There will be exceptions, but generally speaking, they aren't a very good investment.

Lucky we have invested heavily in development coaches to the point we don’t have a senior assistant anymore

I’m sure they can find some time with a cat b rookie like they would any other rookie

And then it’s sink or swim for the cat b rookie, if it doesn’t work out cull them quick and keep finding new options that show instant improvement

It might matter when it comes to Colby's contract. Generally, I'd agree with your sentiment that we haven't invested in Cat B rookies the last 5 years, but you've also got to acknowledge that most don't hit.
Finbar is probably the closest we've had to a Cat B rookie coming from a basketball background.

Of course most don’t hit

Doesn’t mean you don’t keep trying

I’d keep trialling new ones each year until we see a cat b rookie with huge upside that we then keep long term

Can anyone confirm where Colby played in match sim?

Wing is a really specialist position so I'd be bummed for him if he trained all pre season with the mids but then got shifted out to a wing to start the year.

Clubs like Cats or Pies can probably take that risk every year because they have more revenue.
Looks like we tried to get that cricketer recently but they chose somewhere else.

kal penn wow GIF by Sunnyside

Never picked you as anti tas BR 😆
Well, usually I'm not shinboner magic lol

I can say I was asked to "observe" Rhyan for a few clubs while he was playing at North Launnie and the Devils, he never got a look in till the SSP. We weren't the only ones that never took the opportunity, eventually Richmond did, good luck to him.

Heard that we have been casting the net pretty wide with potential SPP players. Particularly talls.

Purely speculation but I think we are putting potential contingencies in place if CCJ doesn’t start to make any progress.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if we have a few players train with us in the new year.

Which talls are available on the open market ?

Honestly there isn’t too much. Having no Free or CCJ I’d imagine we’d be looking at a ruck or CHF. From the delisted lot the only ones that stand out are:

Rucks:
Pruess, Kalin Lane and Jack Hayes.

KP’s:
Krueger, Grainger-Barrass, Tomlinson, Clurey, Scully, Ethan Phillips and Matt Alison.

I’d imagine from the VFL there wouldn’t be too many outside of Cooper Keough, Hudson Garoni or Brayden Crossley.

Crossley would be useful as cover for X and to give him someone to beat up at training, but we could just wait until the MSD.

Preuss, he’ll still be (not) playing long after all of us are gone
