If Hurley fulfills his potential he's definitely a chance.

Being forward won't mean jack shit if they think he's the right man for the job over Hepps/Zaka.

Being a half forward that pushes up into the middle and consistently lays waste to all those in his way and taking clutch marks at pressure moments of the game is as worth of being captain as any midfielder.

In the end though with leadership groups and all players well drilled about "structures" a captain isn't what he once was!!

All im saying is it has been some fair time since a genuine forward has been picked as captain in the entire AFL by coaches, players ect ect. I think theres a reason for that, its just one thing that goes against Hurley.

Personally i like a captain that is in around the contest for the majority of time. I mean what can a captain do sitting in the goal square if the ball aint getting to him.

Defenders who are captain

Maxwell
Van Berlo
Newman
Grimes
Glass

Grimes was basically a full time midfielder this season aswell and yes it was his first season as captain. I dont mind guys behind the ball as i stated who have the play ahead of them.

NVB is just about as genuine as you get for a midfielder.

It just seems like we would have to go against a massive trend/history if Hurley was a full time forward and became captain.

From Zaka's 18th party.

Ahh. :thumbsu:

Hurley looks about 18 in that picture.

Questionable choice of fashion by Hurls. Yellow singlet and jeans?

And disgraceful choice of beverage by Zaka.

Hurley could wear nothing but a brown paper bag and Zaka could be drinking wet pussies and I'd still love them the same.

Legends.

Agree with the sentiment, but brown paper bag? Way too Carlton, no Essendon player should ever be associated with brown paper bags. ;)

Actually van Berlo is being well and truly phased out of the midfield and spends a large proportion of his time down back. yaco is spot on.
Not really, he is our main tagger. Whilst he has spent time down back has mostly been a mid. These days though, these distinctns can be small given that positioning is very fluid.
