Have to agree to disagree. The last couple of weeks he's hit targets well going inside 50 which he wasn't doing much earlier this season.

On the last point, absolutely. Goddard is a brilliant ball user (decision making + skills) going inside 50 so if he gets 8+ I50's a game, that's gotta be good for the team.

Agree that there has been a noticeable improvement in accuracy and trajectory of kicks.

Think that he is also doing what Yoda and I want O'Brien to start doing in the twos. When Heppell has won the ball in close in the last month he's not just dishing off without thought. He's doing what made/make Hird and Watson so good in close, he's absorbing the opposition's pressure and looking to set play up with handball or kicks which makes him infinitely more dangerous.

I'm calling it now: he's our most important player.

there, said it!

(yep ahead of Skipper)

Who gives a flying proverbial about Atley. He's not half the player Heppell is at the moment.

I do. I thoroughly enjoy bringing up the comparison. Over, and over, and over again.

That's not like you. ;)

Just make sure you face up next time North pull a win against a top side of out their arse. Wouldn't want to be accused of being a front runner now, would we? Dare I say...that'd be very Shaun Atley.

He's not half the player now that Heppell was in his first season.

It's done. We win. That guy mouths "Dyson Heppell" three times to himself in nightmares.

Lets all move on to what a gun Hepp is instead!

It's not a matter of who we rated higher heppell or Atley - The expectation until a few days before the draft was that Heppell was a lock for the top 5. There was little discussion about Heppell at the time.

The man love is just getting enormous. Heppell is moving into seriously esteemed company. I just love that we've always known what a gun he'd be. Even in that u18 final it was obvious. But now 17 other clubs supporters are having to face the fact as well. No more "Shortsteppel", just "****ing Heppell :("

**** yeah

Why? They're two completely different players from completely different sections of the draft.

Getting Atley at 18 was an absolute steal for North, and to carry on about something that they're rightly thrilled about is a) pathetic and desperate; and b) really ****en pointless: Heppell has no relevance to North, they had a 0% chance of drafting him at 18.

You're becoming a parody of yourself.

Whilst I agree on the nonsensical nature of making comparisons, I'd argue Atley went at about the right spot. Definitely not a steal though it may have appeared that way at the time.

Zach Merrett at mid twenties, now that's a steal.

The other amusing factor is those opposition supporters who were convinced we got the back flanker and they got the bona fide midfielder. That's pretty funny

You can't blame him because his joke of a coach is playing him in a ridiculous position.
You think he's a better mid? I'm not sure about that. Disposal and decision making not great. Can understand trying to use his pace strength in straight lines from the half back really

At worst a more attacking defender (he's bottom half in his own team for rebound 50s, or at least he was when the topic came up a few weeks ago), but yes, I think he's an inside midfielder, similar in style (if not ability or output obviously) to WCE Judd.

I cream my jocks at the thought of having Ryder, Myers, Watson and Heppell feeding Atley at stoppages.

The bizarre thing about North is that they need the run in their midfield and they could do with getting some defensive accountability on their half back line.
