Swans fans on Facebook make me laugh.

"He's a future captain, you can see it already!"

Then a headline is published and it's

"Gosh I hope he doesn't go to Freo :("

We can't have it both ways. Is he this freak who loves the club and we're lucky to have him or is he that flakey that he's pissing off to a state he's never lived in for a bit of $?

Nothing different to here , remember a thread with trades and drafts , posters lose the plot

I expect Gulden to be a one team player too - but I'm less sure than I used to be before I found out he was a mad keen Carlton fan who reveres Cripps and Walsh.

Can't see us being able to afford a player of Guldens talents for at least another 4-5 years even though we'd love him. We have the Camporeale twins who are highly touted this year which will chew through all our draft picks to select both of them so any sort of trade is off the table.

Then in 2026 we have Cody Walker, son of Andrew, who's supposed to be some sort of super freak. Talk amongst some draft watchers are that he could be a pick 1 fancy if he continues on his current trajectory. That will blow our picks that year too if true.

Errol won't be going anywhere anyway, seems a blood through and through in his interviews but I don't think you need to worry about us until at least Free Agency.

Methinks he'd revere Parker, Mills, Rampe and the like even more so having had a front row seat to them over the past three years.

Re yesterday's headlines that Fremantle & Adelaide are chasing Gulden, I took it to be a positive thing. I was expecting for us to have to fend off seventeen other clubs prepared to throw the book at Gulden before we eventually secured his signature. That could still prove to be the case - it's only March - but for now it's a good thing that there's seemingly only two clubs with a noted interest in him and the cheque book to match it.

I'll add my voice to Errol staying a Swan for life.

Why move?

Sydney born and bred, grew up around the club, his mates are here. Heck his mum is a line coach with our AFLW team.
And how many teams are better placed than us going into the future?

Quite possible he may have to give up some dollars compared to what he can get from other suitors, but he is still going to be richly rewarded, as he should be.

As an indication of the money being thrown around, Tom Morris reported today that 2 list managers told him that Max Holmes could command $1 mill pa on a six year deal. Same age and taken in the same 2020 draft as Errol (pick#20) OOC end of this season as well. Sure might be a bit of mayo being spread around, but still.

As for Holmes, handy player but played 21 games last season and didn't feature in Geelong's B&F top 10.

$1 mill pa, the new 'normal'.

Unless we see more significant salary cap increases coupled with growth of the game, the comp won't be able to sustain these exorbitant wages. Eventually shit is going to hit the fan for a club somewhere down the line who has thrown big money at multiple players only have it not work out and plummet them into the doldrums for a couple of decades after stuffing up their list management. Afl has to step in with some sort of contingency otherwise prepare to give handouts and priority picks to clubs who self sabotaged. Not to mention there will be clubs who get poached and struggle to replace them.

Imo there also has to be something done to stop faux bids. There's no doubt when big money starts flying around clubs will use whatever tactics they can. I have absolutely 0 doubt freo is bidding for Gulden with no intention what so ever to sign him, so that we pay overs in the hopes we have no choice but to give up Logan. We've left ourselves open leaving so many players out of contract at the same time.

Have I missed something? Why would he have long COVID?
Some have said he’s been battling the flu for a while. No one tests for covid these days so who knows what he’s got - I just hope it’s not long covid or long flu. As C88, we need a fast recovery as he looked off his best last week.

Adelaide can * off.

Let Hayward leave and sign Gulden up for 20 years. 30 years.
They can have them both.
They still won't be winning anything anytime soon.
If it wasn't for Taylor Walker last year, they were no where near it.
He'll be done soon.
Missing this week.
Errol won't be interested.
Why would he leave a club that invested heavily in him when young & that is going to contest in finals for the best part of his career.
It would be madness.

Interesting dynamic at play here.

Sydney needs Errol to re-sign

Errol (probably) has no desire to leave Sydney

Crows and Freo "expressing interest"

Errol's manager will be driving a hard bargain, using Freo and Crows as leverage.

Errol’s management appears to have a lot of leverage & could demand an offer be matched. But the Swans may think they’re bluffing, as he doesn’t want to leave.

I don’t know what’d transpire if both parties stonewall & Errol is forced to choose between Swans and more $ at Freo or Adelaide.

We're going to give him a huge deal no matter what

Isn't Errol's gf melbourne-based? If anywhere else (like 0.00001% chance) surely its a Melbourne club. He also from his media appearances doesnt mind the spotlight
