Re: Hayden Skipworth

I'll reiterate that if the blokes issues are that bad, then the recruiters need to take some responsibility for using a top 20 selection (in a superdraft) on a bloke with a bad enough attitude that he be moved on after 2 years.

The recruiters at the time included Sheeds, who thankfully has moved on, and defiantly used his clout at Richmond to prove a point with Hislop. Who really cares about Hislop anymore: he's no longer red and black, and probably never was.

We all know Sheedy wanted Pike- I think Matthews got the best out of him. If he came to Essendon, he may have ended up like Wheildon.

Re: Hayden Skipworth

He on our list now but lets hope he is a flop so you can be proven correct
Don't know about you but i am hoping he does well.....

I don't think anyone's saying lets hope he's a flop. My point and I think Bomba4eva's point is that I would much prefer to see Myers, Houli, Zaharakis, Lonergan, Reimers et al getting plenty of game time over the next 12 - 24 months as we try to reach a level that can start genuinely challenging.

If players are injured and we have nowhere to turn, fine play him and I hope he plays well.

The reality is though that unless these young midfielders start to improve quickly, we are many years away from being premiership contenders, regardless of how well Skipworth plays.

Incredible how many people in here are happy to sit back and chuck stones at one of the all time legends of the game that has done more for our club than probably anyone in its history.

Incredible how many people think Sheedy's history as a player or as the coach of our club (during which he was great for the club) is somehow a valid argument as to why he should not be criticized for his mistakes.

And you attempting to rebuke someone else for being negative is so ironic it is laughable.

I just wan't anyone to play well. If it happens to be Skippy over the next 4 years then so what. The young blokes will get their chance under Knights. If they are good enough they will be in.
I don't think that Skipworth adds a real lot to the list other than some depth but in saying that i thought he was a reasonably good player in Adelaide and i won't be totally shocked if he actually does hold his own in the senior side.

Re: Hayden Skipworth

Hislop is a different issue though his game against Sydney this year was a highlite in an otherwise ordinary year. Obviously there are external issues which have lead to him not being on the list any more. I'll reiterate that if the blokes issues are that bad, then the recruiters need to take some responsibility for using a top 20 selection (in a superdraft) on a bloke with a bad enough attitude that he be moved on after 2 years.

With regard your final point in bold, rouge scollars don't win you premierships, footballers do. Martin Pike????

I'm a shocker for sayings, but I think you mean Rhode Scholars

We're all legends in our own lifetime pal, and we're all subject to, and open to examination of our deeds without fear or favour. I've lauded Sheeds like anyone else, but he's now in another camp.

Bla bla bla....

Pass the buck over to the easy target, don't worry about examining our current full time recruiters who were part of the decision making process.

Re: Hayden Skipworth

Actually, I think the fact that you called it a 'rouge scollar' should disqualify you from voicing any of your opinions on this or any other board.:p

Re: Hayden Skipworth

Well done Einstein. Hope you feel great about yourself after making this a vocabulary board rather than a football one.

Extremely inteligent individual. You should be proud.

You should be feeling quite chuffed yourself. You now have an understanding of recidivism, can spell Rhodes Scholar and engage in dialogue with an intelligent individual, albeit out of your depth.

Your talent is so wasted here S :thumbsu:

PS: You guys really screwed up the quoting.

Re: 21. Hayden Skipworth

I hope he does well in the roles the club obviously has in mind for him both on and off the ground. From what I've heard, much of this will be as a 'mentor' - a vitally important role in helping our young players mature and be the best they can be. Rolling onto towards our next premiership!! :thumbsu:

Re: 21. Hayden Skipworth

Well one game down and a solid effort kicking a couple of goals and 15 possessions. Not bad for someone who is a complete spud and only drafted to play house maid to our young list :p:D

Re: 21. Hayden Skipworth

I was impressed by his composure when he had the ball.

I know it's only NAB but he might provide a strong mature body and cool head for a fair few games this year.

We'll have to wait until the speed and pressure steps up in the real thing to get a gauge on if he'll be a success.

I only saw the game on the screen, his kicks looked a bit loopy?? That was about the only issue I had with his game, but TheDON35 would have a lot more to say, after he watches Hislop tonight.

15 possessions in the first NAB cup game where the speed was off isn't going to change my mind. Would still have rathered seeing a kid running around picking up 10 touches and showing a bit of promise.

Glad you feel vindicated though.

Skipworth arrives
ESSENDON'S decision to pick up mature-aged player Hayden Skipworth in the pre-season draft may have surprised a few people, but the former Crow went some way to vindicating the choice in his first competitive hitout with the Dons.

Skipworth, 25, finished with 15 possessions, seven tackles and two crucial goals in the thrilling one-point win over the Bulldogs on Friday night.

"I was pretty nervous all week, but it's definitely good to get the first one out of the way," he said after the match.

I was rapt to see a good performance from Skipworth on Friday, however, Paul Thomas played a pretty good game in rd 1 of the NAB cup the other year. I will reserve my complete judgement until he has performed over the year. But early stages lead to Excitment. GOOD TO HAVE FOOTY BACK.
