Player Watch #21: Noah Balta - Suspended First 4 Games

On Balta and Moore Garthwaite C-J, without a doubt we should be putting as many games into them as possible. Obviously not all at once.
We dont have any other mature tall players with AFL GAMES behind them or many games at least. When we cop injuries and sooner or later they will come, then we will have to play em anyway without the support of the older talls around them and with no game time behind them.

Lets say we do play say 15 games with just JR and out of the blue he does his knee!!!!!! what then? just throw one of the kids in the deepend to play a lone hand fwd with out a game behind them.
Or lets say the worst thing happens and we lose both JR and AR what then its just two players but we dont even have a player we can bring in with some sort of AFL experience outside of the odd game or two.

I imagine we would cover him like we did last year when he missed a couple of games. The role he plays now can be covered as we no longer rely on a big KPF to anchor down out of the goal square.

Balta has everything to make it in the game. he has size, speed, good kick. if he can be mentored well by Jack or Alex, he will go far.
As you mentioned Noah Balta has it all physically size ,height, speed & agility

The kid couldnt have landed at a Better club to give him the required coaching and guidance from coaches like Leppa,Rutten,Caracella,Maric & McRae and better team mates to learn from than Rance & Riewoldt
Rance will teach him the way defenders defend and he will be pitted against rance at the intra club and if you can do well there then other teams defenders are a walk in the park & Riewoldt will show him exactly the things the smart foward needs to do

Kid will be a very very good player in 3 years time

2 x KPB
2 x KPF
1 x Ruck

Simply put 20% of the team selected every week are either KPP and Ruck , Why would you use more than 1 selection on a KPP on average per year in the main draft ? and 1 in the rookie draft

When you consider these players take 5+ years to develop you could possibly have 10 -12 KPP + 3-4 Ruckman on your list , Thats 30%-35% of your list occupied by players that only take up 5 spots in your starting 22 and 5/6 spots in the 2's

The game has moved from the dinosaur types and its a fast moving mobile game that is dominated by hybrid types , The last 2 premierships have proven this and teams like Crow's , GWS have fallen short with all the slow tall timber players

Congratulations Richmond you have proven that Speed , Pressure and Mobility is what it takes

Agree, reasonable chance if we had same talent and process with taller dinosaur types we would not be a success!!

I’m not so much into this must have talls scenario, but more interested in having blokes in the mid 180s who can jump as well as have some speed .
These two attributes allow you to get to contests on the ground as well as in the air either to harass or to create. Castagna Rioli and Butler proved this time and time again all year and they were assisted by the slower tough boys in Townsend and Caddy. Jack was our only serious tall , but he actually plays tall and small which makes him near impossible to keep down as he’s always involved in the game. We looked ridiculous in 2016 with TV, Hammer and Griffiths and we were similar last year when Soldo and Elton loped around.
Moore and Balta imo can play both ends of the ground and will be the perfect replacement if any “tall” gets injured. Bolton also fits into the three amigo role and has a massive leap and with another “preseason” under his belt he should have the strength and endurance to see out games. His leap is only second to Jack and his ground work plus speed is a class above. I can’t see the club going back to the KDH Galapagos Island turtle game plan that was backed up with the living remains of Jurassic Park dinosaurs.
The Caracalla game plan is based on breaking speed to create , closing speed to shut down contests and leading or jumping to either create or disrupt.
Earlier I stated this kid Balta in the long term will be a great pick up and possibly the best in the draft as he has some serious aerial skills and great ground tools.
This is no knock on Higgins as he is a different player and will be a beauty in the midfield.
I’m over categorising players as talls or this or that as the modern day footballer at 180 plus cm can gain height with their leap and more often than not leave their giraffe opponents behind once the ball is on the deck.
This is what happened on the 29/09/2017.
