Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005

And get him the 3 goals he needs

Needs 4 for outright. With Logan out til the Bye though I think he'll play plenty.

Hope the mids are practicing their bombing to the forward line for Buddy tonight. They certainly get enough practice during game day but they might need to do it more now with Logan out.

Buddy is still averaging 1.4 goals a game which is actually quite serviceable. No where near what he could do a decade ago but good enough to be in the team.

If the ball was moving like it was last year, I think he would still be averaging 2-3 goals a game.

He should definitely finish up this season, but he hasn't been our problem.

The line is 45 for me. If he somehow kicks more than that I wouldn't begrudge one more, but don't think he'll get there.

Yeah, he will struggle to kick 30 if we keep playing so poorly.

But my point was more than I think he is going ok overall. About the same as last year, it just isn't coming in anything like what it was last year.

The media are obsessed with him, but I don't think he has been our problem this year.

He's still very clearly sick with his non-stop sniffing during the post-game interview. He'll kick bags again when he's better - another 10 against Carlton please

Ideally you want a goal or two if only to keep his average up.

But although the stats were nothing special I thought he still performed a handy role last night .

Easy for his knockers to say oh cooked didn't do enough. Yes he didn't star and his career hasn't been as a role player,
but last night was a deceptively solid game imo.

Missed a shot, dished a few off , drew attention , competed hard

That pass across his body was exceptional.

3 or 4 weeks ago he was trying to take the ball & break away from his opponent to take a shot at goal.

Last night he readjusted his game knowing he can't do what he used to & did what he is still capable of doing.

I can accept that from him. I don't care if he doesn't score goals himself because I know his presence can be enough for his opponents & team mates.

0 flags is unders really for the Buddy swans era.

I know he has been great etc etc

But when we signed him if you said he plays 10 seasons and we get 0 flags you wouldn't believe it probably

It's shit but it's not like you can pinpoint him as the reason and I'd argue we wouldn't have been as close to winning flags in that 10 years without him.

Let's also not forget that with an 18 team competition the absolute, average baseline of achievement for each team is one flag every 18 years. Winning 1 flag in 10 years is considered a really good effort and I'd argue getting so close a few times isn't the disaster some of us would like to think it is.

Oh it isn't a disaster and it's not on him , he did his job, we had chances.

Just he joined a pretty good side and at the time i thought (rightly or wrongly) this side will get at least 1.

Glad we took the chance , but there is a bit of a , not fail, but yeah under par here imo

Exactly. No one person responsible for that. Just Team. Just Like there was not one person responsible for us making 3 GF's over that time period.
Lets call it as it is though, L. Franklin had a fair say in it. More than earnt what he was paid to do.

I’d agree, except that he hasn’t performed in a GF.

It’ll always be a case of “what if Buddy had cut loose?” in one of those games.
