AFL Player #23: Harrison Jones - Clocks up 50th game v Gold Coast - 5/8

Seeing Harry finding form and confidence has been one of the most pleasing things about the season to date.

Even last week when we were being polaxed he kept running, presenting and kicked a fine goal.

This is what we were seeing a few years back before injury struck. Fingers crossed this is his new dawn as a hard working kpf who runs up and back but has enough left to apply defensive pressure will be invaluable for us

I’ve been a bit annoyed by the fans who say he needs to be offloaded, traded etc. His talent is so obvious and the lack of continuity was always going to hold him back. He’s not there yet but these past few weeks shows us that we weren’t imagining it, he really is worth persevering with.

That was me 🤚

I was wrong 😑

Seeing him in this game compared to round 1 was like a completely different player.
It wasn't like everything went his way but he just kept working and working and when he had chances he took them.
In round 1 he seemed to be so lacking in confidence that even if the ball fell into his lap 15m out you wouldn't back him. In this game he was making every moment count - when he couldn't mark it he brought it to ground. Showed genuine desperation in his defensive efforts.

In 2 weeks we could be facing a very interesting prospect when Wright returns as to whether we a) go extra tall, b) drop a 2nd ruck or c) drop Jones (I'd hate to see that right now).

Wright suspension saved his career. I really like his marking and work rate. His pressure for a tall is great.

Goes down the pecking order with 2MP in the side which is a shame because he can certainly handle the responsibility and he's a good kick for goal. At 23, I'd say other clubs would be keeping a close eye.

It was the one percenters that I really loved last night. A tackle or shepherd here, a well placed spoil or tap there, that sort of thing.

His marking and kicking and work rate off the ball in general were fantastic but it was the other stuff that really elevated his game to the next level.

I really hope he can keep this up once Wright comes back because weirdly enough he seems to be thriving without him. I’m loving what we’re seeing from him right now.

Do you think he and Wright can work in the same forward line?

He has always done these things, it's just that he was dropping all his marks since coming back from injury. He's now clunking them and is full of confidence.

Nah, the Wright role is being played by our rucks and Jones has been good all year even when Wright was in the team for those first two games. It’s the Caddy slow start that gave him this run of games. But I don’t think fitting them all in to the forward is going to be an issue.

He was dropped and wasn't initially selected even with Wright out, but Setterfield's late out vs St Kilda made him a late inclusion and the rest is history.

He wasn't good until the St Kilda game and I'm including preseason.
