Can someone please explain what’s going on with Powell? To me he is best 22 yet he’s been omitted/medical emergency more weeks than not this year after showing heaps last year. What’s happened?

I get that we're all interested in a young bloke who's shown a bit taking the next step, but seriously, has no-one noticed that he broke down in his first year? that he might be now be under management according to his needs, and not the expectations of BF posters? how does that equate to incompetence on the part of the club, the coach?

I expect that it’s likely due to him breaking down last year and the fact he’s had an interrupted preseason.

However, I would like the club to communicate the situation, rather then continually “omitting” one of our best young prospects.

There is so much heat on social media about it, I have no doubt he will be asked in his next couple pressers.

Look, I understand the point you make that people 'want to know', but what would the club communicate? that he's still to develop physically enough for the demands of the game (not a great message)? Or if he's declared as 'injured', then he can't play in the 2s which is what he might need for his own development?

“We are taking it easy with Tom this year after last year. He will get frequent rests after stints in the seniors. We’ve communicated and agreed this approach with him”

Would help prevent what is currently taking place on all forms of the clubs social media…

The same fans are always going to find something to whinge about tbh.

Is that right? don't follow much apart from the intellectual discourse on BF; if we have to pander to FB and insta as well, the task is formidable indeed

This. There needs to be a bit of respect for the members and fans and this is part of it IMO. There's a clear expectation here that's not being met and we deserve an explanation.

Plus, it's not as if we'd be giving out state secrets ffs. We're a ****ing dogshit football side. I think getting the fans around and on board is more important.

It’s all a bit melodramatic on social media. A second year player has been dropped. It’s hardly like we’ve exiled a superstar. If we actually had one that was fit.

Before the Dogs game Gerard Healy was on AFL Nation talking up Powell. He was a massive wrap for him, saying how he would be out best 6 players in a couple of years. So, considering how BF is unanimous in its agreement that Healy is a complete moron, it’s the right thing to drop Powell as he’s obviously shit!

Why are people saying he is rested, when the Team Sheet says omitted?

I’m not sure how this guy is omitted in front of the couple of potatoes that are still named in the squad?
because when you're rested you don't play. We will want him to play VFL.

Classic Healy call, not that I think he's far off on this one but he more than any other commentator appears to rate players based on how they resemble his assets in his playing days.

Just needs game time. Go run around in the 2s.
At this stage I would like to see him and WiPhi get full game time in the guts at VFL level, ably supported by Dom Tyson et al. Even for a few weeks to get miles into their legs. Get them primed and smashing down the door, then into the 1st in the 2nd half of the season when they are both raring to go.
