ThanksThat broken leg was a real shame, because before that he was looking like being our no.1 lockdown small defender for the next dozen years, but he hasn’t gotten back to that level since.
He’s a very good height for that role (as he can play on the smaller, quicker types, and also the medium sized HFF types), and he’s got a good leap, so he’s very competitive in the air.
He also uses that leap to intercept mark well, something he’s good at. He took lots of intercept marks in the VFL last season.
Is very dual-sided, so much so that in the U18’s he would sometimes kick out from full back on his non-preferred left foot, which is something you almost never see.
Can potentially also do tagging/run-with jobs on a wing, or perhaps even in the middle.
Wish him all the best.
Yeah that’s his best role. He doesn’t rack them up enough to be a running/rebounding type.I could be wrong but Paton is a lock down small defender isn't he, sort of in the Nick Smith mold?
I was about to ask when he suffered his broken leg before realising I could easily look that up. Pre-season 2021. So that’s four seasons ago.Was a really good lock down defender prior to his broken leg with a somewhat fearless attack on the ball.
Since the injury however he has struggled to make an impact and seems to play extremely cautiously.
He has lost a yard of pace so that point of difference is no longer there and his vertical leap is not what it was.
I wish him well but fear his injury has seriously curtailed what was a very promising AFL
Yeah that’s his best role. He doesn’t rack them up enough to be a running/rebounding type.
Cunningham ???To be honest I am fine with that as we have really lacked a real lock down small defender since Smith retired. It is an undervalued role.
Cunningham ???
Not enough rizz or gyatt in this post. I am shook.Frankly Haz has too much razzle-dazzle to be compared to Smooch. Sure, he locks down well, but he doesn't wear his opponent like a glove so you don't even know he's there in the same way. You wouldn't catch Nick Smith scoring a GOTY contender!
Not saying he's ugly or anything, but I feel like I have seen at least 2,000 men in my lifetime who look exactly like this guy.“I back myself in to play”

Hear from Swans draftee Ben Paton as he speaks to the media around joining the club and what we can expect to see from him in the future.www.sydneyswans.com.au

Unless I've just met Ben Paton 2,000 times.
