I'd play him in his best position, which is a wing, which he has proven to be very good at.
Has he really proven he’s very good on the wing? I’d say he’s too slow. I’d also say if he doesn’t have ball in hand he’s a liability.

He’s a very nice kick for goal, knows how to find space and is capable overhead, wouldn’t you think playing as a half forward would be his best position? Not taking into account lack of defensive pressure/the ball rebounding to our defensive 50 quicker than you can say **** me dead if the ball hits the deck in our forward line.

Scott's presser:

What do you need from Jake to put him back in the frame?

"It's just part of the build for Jake. He was medically available for round 1, but we just felt he really needed another solid week of training which he did. He has matched and exceeded game loads at training. But we want to set him up to play his best footy. There's definitely a temptation to look at the team on paper and think 'gee we're a better side with Jake in it'. But you've got to give players the opportunity to be the best they can be. He will attract some attention when he comes back in and I just don't think it's the right thing to do to bring a player in of his calibre when he's not absolutely 100% and had a really good prep. So again it fits in with our approach of not taking any shortcuts and not looking short term."

Extra sessions to get ready quicker?

"He doesn't need to do anything outside of the regular program. So he'll play in the VFL this week and really that's the final bit of preparation for him to be available to play AFL footy. As I said two weeks ago he was out of the medical situation where they rule him in or out, he's been available for a couple of weeks and now it's just a matter of having him right to play his best footy"

How many quarters in the VFL?

"He'll play the whole game. The only thing that might mitigate that is that we have a 6 day break leading into the next game, so we'll have a look at that. But the plan is for him to play the whole game."

You would be the only one on this forum that thinks his best position is on a wing.

I can't remember him ever playing there more than 5 minutes.

Do you think it's because a strength of his is his gut running and ability required to run both ways ?

He wouldn't last a quarter playing that role.

Yes. I've shown it several times throughout his thread.

He's good defensively on a wing, runs both ways and is an elite kick inside 50.

I'm not, but you don't remember his two years of finishing top 5 in the best and fairest? He played wing there. And was excellent at it.

Just to be clear, you're talking about Langford and not Stringer right?

We definitely disagree on him being very good or excellent on the wing.

Durham and Martin have been around 5 minutes and have already overtaken him.

Yes, we know about your blind spots.

VFL player review

Jake Stringer

22 disposals, one goal, five marks

"Stringer looked powerful from stoppages played centre bounce mid at times then went forward. Showed his class, played unselfish trying to set up team mates and was good in the contest."

I think he would be suited to being a sub this week. A high energy Stringer coming on in the 3rd would be very effective.
