That must have been about 300+ in the second? I'm sure I recall the commentators saying she'd had about 110m gained as the teams ran out for the 3rd quarter.

Which really goes to show how close we were to breaking them last year. Jas got shutdown in the second half as I recall, and that's what won Bre Koenen the medal. But it's such a fine line. If only we were able to go one or two goals further up early in the third qtr in last year's game. In that case, Starcevich has to release that hard tag and play more aggressively, which would have opened them up, just as it did last night. But the lack of options in the mid field last year was the lesson we had to learn.

I’ve said this before but Jas knows exactly what she’s doing. She knows that AFLW is often a congested affair. She grabs the ball at a stoppage and already knows where she’s going to poke the ball out. She inevitably gets tackled by three players, but by then the ball has already been squeezed out by foot towards a teammate 15 metres away; enough to clear the stoppage. She does this 20 times a game. Players understand it. Coaches understand it. Umpires and their voting obviously don’t understand it.

Good post. The only remarks I would add is that she has in congestion (a) one of the quickest hand to foot actions in the comp, allowing her to clear under intense pressure, and (b) one of the longest legs on her kick in the comp, so even her 'dump' kicks take good ground

She also has great awareness of space. Her handballs are generally into space and allow teammates time to dispose of the ball.

She wasn’t wearing the BoG medal yesterday, just the same medal everyone else had on - and I noticed on the night when went up for her player medal she’d either taken the individual one off or tucked it inside her shirt, and same when they walked around the boundary. She is is extraordinarily humble for how great she is, no wonder everyone loves her.

Maybe it's because umpires' synapses are wired to run much slower. Case in point, opponents and coaches and most of the crowds sees a player take possession then take a couple of steps or have an opportunity before the tackle but the umpires more often than not fail to see that prior opportunity. Their brains are too slow. So it is when Jas has the ball, they literally don't see her quick disposals.

I think we will find in years to come one of the medals they have out will be named after her.
I'm about 99% certain that North's Best and Fairest award will be called the Jasmine Garner Award. She has already won it four times, I would think she wins a fifth later this week.
