I saw it and just thought... what in the **** was that?

I doubt the man himself would care but they certainly picked the wrong target in such a loved and admired player.

Especially one who has had a heap of awesome moments that make a great highlight reel!

I wondered if I was being precious, so was good to see so many people agreed.

Seen it now. It's a joke that probably fell a bit flat. I think Brown even mentioned the blooper real in the match v Hawthorn last week.

Don't see any malice or disrespect but that horse bolts when statements start getting issued. Becomes a bit hard to double down.

I thought Huddo's comments were more than enough to put everything in context. At the end of the day he's been one of the most dominant marking players in the game for at least 8 years now, AA, bla bla bla. Everyone knows it.

Last night was not the first time he has made McGovern look like his little protege in marking contests.

Can someone post a clip of this?

I usually start the matches late so I can fast forward all of this sh*t.

Don’t have one sorry and i doubt they’ll show it again.

It was obviously an attempt at humour but just came off as a few w***ers taking the piss out of an underrated star

Huddo: “Cale Hooker’s 200 games and Browny wanted us to show these highlights”

Cut to a skinny Hooker in his third game playing on Brown.

Huddo: “And Lewy wanted us to show this!”

Cut to Buddy’s goal and Hooker chasing him. Apparently Lewis kicked it to him.

Perhaps if it was a joke between some actual highlights but it just ended there with them laughing, came across as stupid and disrespectful.

I think it might've been part 2 of a discussion of their experiences playing with him. The two bits they played at quarter time were the Buddy chase (which Jordan Lewis had handballed to Buddy right at the start of that clip), and Jonathon Brown kicking goals against him. I didn't hear the first part but that's how I interpreted it, like they'd commented on it earlier and asked for the footage to be dug up.

It basically made the commentators look good and the player they were meant to be celebrating look like crap. The kind of joke that would be more at home on the footy show than during the match broadcast.

It was probably worse because there was stuff all else about Cale that night, he had no banner to run through and wasn't chaired off or applauded off (covid obviously), but also no half-time interview, no proper highlights reel at half-time either, they didn't even talk about his career or do anything special for it. The highlights that they played at 3/4 time (which I didn't see) apparently looked like they were slapped together at the last minute, it's like they'd forgotten. If they'd done a joke and then really celebrated him properly later it would be different.

Being an outsider , I remember thinking he shows a lot of guts not giving up the chase And there weren’t to many that would of caught buddy in his prime , watched the fishing video and he comes across as just a great person , having said that I prefer him down back

Well written. I watched it live and didn’t think anything of it. Guess I’ve become very accustomed to the lame humour used by commentators. Having no banner and other fanfare is a great point.

I stumbled into the comments section on twitter of the apology and was genuinely surprised how many opponent fans rate and respect hooker, even talking some norf and hawk fans too.

Sometimes you don't see the forest for the trees as a club fan, from the outside looking in he probably looks a bit of a warrior who steps up in big moments

He's so rock solid. Warrior is the word.

Fox is not the only media outlet that has disrespected Hooker the last couple of days.

This morning on Triple M Adelaide, Ditts (Riccuito's sidekick) posed the question as to whether Cale Hooker is the worst player ever to play 200 games.

David McKay says hello Ditts (whoever that is). Also riccuito on radio would be painful.

Not sure if this got posted with yesterday's mess, but the club actually put out a statement as well, confirming Fox Footy had apologised to both Cale and the club.

On Tuesday evening, Cale Hooker became the 29th player in Essendon history to play 200 games for the club.

Like all 200-game players, Hooker’s achievements and career highlights deserve to be celebrated.

But instead, much to the disappointment of the club, Cale was ridiculed by Fox Footy during the quarter-time break of the broadcast.

Fox Footy has formally apologised directly to Cale and to the club for the inappropriate coverage. A 200-game player, 2014 All Australian and 2015 Crichton medallist, he deserved better.

Ah, someone clipped it!

Anyone who plays 200 AFL games is a very good AFL player. People will argue and debate a number of factors about each player and thats okay, but for a commentator (i.e. Dits) to actually ask a question like is not really a question. Its just to disguise the intended insult and nothing more.

Thats just outright basic stupidity. Considering the world today it doesn't surprise as their is an uprising of stupid gaining momentum.

Cale Hooker has been a great player over 200 games and possibly one of the best defenders of the last 10 years.

To be able to go forward kick 41 in a year and win matches also is testament to his quality.

But I do think his body is shot and he can barely move these days. Injuries just keep piling up. Retirement this year is a serious thought. Has another year of contract I believe but if he does retire it allows us a good wack at a free agent with cap space... ? Zach Williams?

Brown and Lewis were good players but they think they are Martin and Lewis , not

Ditts (Dittmar) is actually a Port man.

Also was the number 1 squash player in the world at stages through the 80's and 90's but kept on coming runner up to the great Khans of Pakistan in the major events. No shame in that.

Good on him. It seems he knows **** all about football though

So he's the worst player to have reached number 1?
