Love that connection all the indigenous boys have.
Daniel Rioli what a great man. He’ll be in an environment he feels comfortable and welcomed. Really important if these guys are going to make it

With all due respect.....how the * would you know?
Common sense really.
Wasn't really in any of the selection frames for pick 4, so a few picks in the MSD later wouldn't be hard.

His exposed SANFL form from what I can see is 1 game where he kicked 4 goals, I don't think he was a hot prospect we were desperate of losing. Once Hansen Jr was off the board, don't think clubs were sniffing around for a small forward.

His highlights look good enough but his stats (only ones I could find so could be more elsewhere) show that he had one big game, but didn't trouble the scorers in 2/3 games. Low tackle numbers too. Given his low weight, he probably needs a bit of time in the gym, would be tough at AFL level at 69kgs.

I hope he turns out good obviously, but I reckon he would've been available at our second pick. Would've liked to give Hunter a spot as a no-risk free swing. I feel like a guy like Coulthard we could have picked up in the rookie draft as a mature age at the end of year if the rest of his season was strong.
You do realise that was his first 3 senior games you were looking at or don’t you

Common sense my arse you reviewed him like he’d played 300 rather than 3 games 😆 nice one

Geez that Matty has an infectious smile...hope we all see more of it when matty's kicking goals for the Tigers with his bros!

Exactly. Not someone we were in danger of missing if we left it to the next pick, or got more data over the rest of the year was probably a mature age rookie pick up.

Anyway, hope he goes well now! Looks to have decent skills and speed as physical attributes.

4. Richmond - Matthew Coulthard
Glenelg SANFL
Small forward
176cm/69kg
11/05/01

A small forward with elite crumbing ability, Coulthard is a speedy and dangerous player in the mould of Geelong's Tyson Stengle. Originally from local club Port Noarlunga, the 22-year-old only became eligible for the mid-season draft a matter of days ago, when he played his third SANFL game of the season and passed the eligibility threshold. The fact he kicked four goals in that game in wet conditions no doubt boosted his case and the Tigers have swooped.

Yeah this doesn't just happen by chance I don't think, me thinks this was in the works from a long way out.

Welcome Matt!

Will definitely assist in stopping the ball walking out of our forward 50 at some point!

I was melting at first but just watched the highlights video on RFC website, this kid is so fast and his footy IQ/goal nous is off the charts.
Watching the highlight package reminded me of a very young Shane Edwards, wouldn't that be wonderful

I reckon the blokes that do it for a job would have a slightly better idea of what's what.

Pa may have been interested , I’d be surprised if we were that far ahead of the game no one else had heard of him although Clarkey said we’d been monitoring for 12m

His four goals last week came from six kicks (two handballs) and represented half of Glenelg's eight goals for the match in a winning total of 8.5 to 6.8 over Centrals.
He laid one tackle.
Averaging 8.7 possessions in three games; 1.7 tackles.
Opportunist if there ever was one.

Ironically, we have been desperate for a small forward all season. MRJ has been average but the pressure he brings has often turned the game to our favour. We need a better balance in the forwardline. At the moment we're too tall and slow. We need a presence at ground level and someone to help put pressure on the oppositions rebound from defense.

While we definitely need a replacement for Jack, we are extremely unlikley to find anyone of quality to the Mid-Season Draft. A small, electric forward though was a far greater possibility.

I'm excited by this pick. Not just for what for what Coulthard brings individually but moreso for what he does to our overall gameplan and structure. I hope he plays immediately!

He doesn't need to tackle that's what Mansell and MJ are for ....... :tearsofjoy:
