Someone on the commentary mentioned that he attacks the incoming ball, but doesn't have the body yet to hold position in the air.

Could we strap a couple of 5kg weights to his torso just to get him that extra bit of weight to launch into the air? Might help him stay in the right position to mark it?

Until a weight becomes dislodged and KOs Salem

He is actually doing a lot better in contests than I expected at his age and stage of development, and I love how comfortable he is at ground level.
Agree.
While he doesn't clunk many yet, he flies pretty hard at it in a pack and creates a strong contest for a kid his age and size.
I say keep playing him because he kicks it nicely so as soon as he starts grabbing a few more, he'll be one of those blokes who could dob 3 or 4 from limited opportunity.

I'm thinking we can afford to 'carry' him this year to get the games experience into him. He will contribute without setting the world on fire but it will be worth it.

We don't have a huge amount of depth in key forwards, and the only other guys (Smith/Pedersen) aren't the "future" or aren't as good as Weid yet (Hulett).

Jesus Christ that link is longer than Pi

Was good again today, is working into the game. Made one very dumb mistake where he tried to play on with no options and got caught HTB, but he wasn't alone in that today.

What are everyones realistic expectations of him this year, goals wise?

I'd be stoked with 1 a game.
Yeah, if he can crack 20 I'll be pretty pleased.

Might have to stand up next week at the #1 target with Hogan likely to miss...

We know he'll give us a contest no matter what, he isn't going to come out and dominate a good backline like Geelong just yet but I think he'd cope OK. Geelong have a weakness to small forwards IMO, we'll need Kent/Garlett/Petracca to fire to beat them.

Seems to have a bit of Josh Jenkins, 'right place right time' about him, and if he maintains an average of 1.5 goals a game (which he probably won't), then he'll kick 30 for the year. Goodwin's faith in him has been justified so far, without him dominating.

He definitely doesn't have the athleticism, strength or guile to sell candy, so I think he needs to stamp that out of his game ASAP.

I don't see him as a passenger or that we are 'carrying' him -he's best 22 IMO. Again took a beautiful contested mark when he kicked his first.

I'm setting him a target of 25 goals minimum this season and hopefully a rising star nomination later on.

Sad to admit it but I've never watched him live. Anyone able to shed light on his leading patterns, ability to chase/pressure etc (ie the stuff that you can't see on TV)?

You've asked the right guy, he is borderline my favourite player alongside Salem and Gus :D

His leading got mixed up with Hogan a bit last year but I think they are slowly building some synergy this year, he presents at the ball carrier and always makes a contest so I think they've already started to build some synergy. As good as Hogan is I actually think the Weid leads at the ball better and is a better mark.

His chasing and pressuring is pretty non-existent tbh, he isn't super quick and obviously won't have a huge tank so he struggles in that area.

Cheers for the info :thumbsu:

He's certainly got a long way to go but his attributes are there - I love how he attacks the ball in the air and his kicking looks very neat. Glad to hear other parts of his game are coming along too.

Under the radar type who leads well and kicks goals. Just needs more strength through the core so he can get through a defender to the ball. I don't see why he couldn't be an A.Rocca type once he builds a little.

So an unfit, slow, inconsistent, often ineffectual, one-dimensional plodder who can kick the ball miles?

He was so underrated because of Sav. Lead, mark, kick goal. There's a reason he was Collingwood's main forward during the early 00's.
