It wasn’t just the fact he was pushed around …. His positioning around the centre stoppages was awful. He just stood on the wrong side of the stoppage and left a huge gap for Rowell to run into
Incorrect rewatch the replay , Dow was the only one who actually put some body on Rowell when he was opposed to him .

Soft?
Hard as a cats head.
Played crap in a side that played crap. Pushed aside by Rowell a few times. Big deal, it’s a great education.
I’d stick with him.
I’ve just rewatched the replay he was actually very good defensively but his fellow midfielders just put no defensive pressure in at all and just went ball watching chasing .

Needs to play half a dozen games to see if he’s at the level. His brother was a late bloomer. I think all our mids were pushed around today and they’ve got more experience and better pay packets. Just keep the kids going to see if they belongs otherwise delist them after all the retirements take place with our older guys.
We have bigger problems than worrying about a kid with a few games under his belt. I still want to see Clarke in the side on a wing as this could fill one of our speed issues.

He often started on Anderson or Miller and then was drawn to Rowell when Rowell had the footy as Taranto / Prestia merely just ran offensively . The replay isn’t great viewing for Taranto and Prestia.
Might be mistaken but I think Hopper went to Rowell later in the game as well
Seemed like the best match up for him overall in terms of Hopper still impacting himself and nullifying Rowell to an extent

Anyone caning Dow after today has rocks in the heads. Taranto and Prestia are the two who deserve to get caned. Dow was the best of our permanent mids in terms of midfield work today and he wasn't great. His role was heavily reliant on Prestia and Taranto winning the ball.

I copped shit for saying Prestia is done after the Pies game. Today has just strengthened that point of view. His lack of pace was not an issue when he could.win the ball or pressure the ball carrier. He rarely did either today and got exposed several times.

Dow at least tried all day. Not sure you could say the same for the leaders around him based on some efforts.

Yep. Bigger body helped stop Rowell.

This is crazy. Best of our mids? LOL He had 6 touches

Dow was constantly jogging on the spot around the contest while the GC mids ran rings around him. Not only is he is not strong enough or have the footy IQ, he doesn't look anywhere fit enough to be an AFL midfielder

The frustrating thing with prestia is that he looks like he's mentally finished

Cause he is trying to cover for 2 other mids who don’t give a **** about their opponent . Prestia never has and merely got away with it during our premiership years due to the efforts of those around him , they aren’t there now and it leaves it to just Dow .

Happy for Dow to be given another go but when a mid has to get dropped for Dusty and you only have 6 touches then you’re making it a pretty easy decision for the match committee.

wtf are you talking about? An inside mid who can't play any other position and can't find the footy outside of congestion is reliant on other inside mids to win him the ball? How about he goes and wins it himself? If hes reliant on other blokes to win it for him then he shouldnt be in the side.

17 centre bounces for 0 centre clearances, 6 touches and 2 score involvements.....but he was our best mid :straining:

There is a reason GWS’ midfield is stronger as unit in the past two years particularly defensively and why some players are and have now able to add some offensive ball winning to their game .

On the back of this, I do think we need to scale back the collective view of the importance of possessions as a sign of how good or bad a player has played.

Dow makes a part of the group of midfielders that need to play in a manner that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We should evaluate the whole midfield as a collective not it’s individual parts.

It did seem as if mid-way through the game Dow was playing more a sacrificial defensive position in clearance; essentially allowing his man into the clearance but not allowing the ball to get out the front of the stoppage.

I assume that this is what you meant by the reliance on Taranto and Prestia to feed him the ball as he was put in a position that was hard to win it himself?

With Dusty back next week Dow may be the one that makes way, but I agree that Prestia should be the one to make way; which considering the five day break he just may.

He had a poor game 100%.
However, if it was me, you persevere with him. He would have learnt a lot from how Rowell and Anderson went about it. Plus I'm sure his one on one review with his line coach will be scathing.

I saw enough during pre-season to know that this guy has something different that we desperately need in that midfield. Creativity. Yes, last night didn't go his way, but when we get the midfield mix right during this transitional period he will become an asset.

I understand some of the comments in here directly after the game calling for his head, but let's be serious, we have bigger concerns.
