He’s not like Shane Edwards beyond his build perhaps. He panic hand passes - it’s luck if it goes to a teammate and he can’t tackle. Edwards could.

Compare early Shane with Dow.
Early doors that are pretty similar although Shedda always had a hint of magic about him. But turnovers were horrible early doors

He’s not the future but he is the current. Makes bad decisions, offloads to someone else in a worse position, can’t kick, and doesn’t find a lot of the ball. I expect he will be delisted at year’s end. Here’s hoping for his sake he can turn some of these deficiencies around.
Yeah that’s it- can’t kick 👍
There’s been plenty of inside mids , that have been average by foot ( a Brownlow medalist playing for Collingwood comes to mind) but you need to be winning a sh!t load of the footy and distributing well by hand to make up for that. Dow certainly not that type

Much better effort, but I want to see him believe & take that shot at the end next time. Needs to believe he is a player that can do stuff like that. He had the distance in him

Was nice to see more rounded games from him and Ross as well today. Whether they will quite ever get there as inside mids I am not sure but really pleased with what I saw today from both.

No you clown. He did what he was told.
Don’t risk the behind and hand the ball back to Sydney.
He did not have the distance in him.

Yup he has shown a few times that he can play at the level

Now the challenge is to show consistency and bridge that gap between his good games and bad ones

The shedda comparison needs to stop. He does not have a kick on him. If he plays to his strengths and limit his weaknesses which is what he did today he’ll be a great role player

Agree. We were 11 points down. He takes that shot and scores, we go 17 up. He misses, it's 12 up. We NEARLY lost that by 1 point. Had we lost, I'f be looking at that moment as the one that cost us.

Needed more situational awareness at that point. A goal ices it, a point all but confirms a win. What he did was the wrong thing.

Lifted today against a hell of an opposition. Made a weird choice at the end but I'm willing to forgive it for that crunching tackle on Warner that should have been holding the ball.
Plays again next week.

we were 11 points down & he was >45 out. He took 1 step & kicked it 40. Surely you go the goal attempt & at wortst the point to at least keep it to a 2 goal game.

Plus, he didn't bloody pass it. He kicked it up and down into the goal square, literally a few meters from the goal line - how was that "avoiding the point" ? wouldn't you pass it or at least lob it towards the pocket? The actual result was, we nearly lost the game by a point, so whoever "told him" is rather lucky Sydney botched the last cpl of inside 50's they had to win the game after they got the ball back

It was definitely an error but it is the whole team's error. Players around him needed to give him the right instruction there. With Lynch and Lefau off, hot spotting it was never going to work in our favour.

But this is what these games are all about for these guys, get into situations, make errors, review, learn, practice, grow. Dow needs to keep adding to his game. He may end up being the 5th best midfielder at the club and missing selection sometimes, but if he keeps adding to his game there is still a role there, even as a low cost relief mid.

Perfectly said. It could of cost us the game but at the end of the day, it didn't.

Agree, but he is at an age he shouldnt need the guidance, he needs to start wanting to be in these moments. He is the most experienced of the young crop. But as others said,it was a lesson learned without cost. Have no doubt Yze will be giving him a pump up & telling himself, just back yourself in mate.

As others said, with Lynch & Lefau off injured & Balta back, there was not much purpose except gving the opportunity for a surging spoil forward or a intercept mark

Bolton did similar about a minute later . Dow was outstanding all game and if he wasn’t we wouldn’t have been in the game .
