Serious hands pace and skill. Not super footy smart but will learn. Could easily become elite.Didn't feel the need to add much more, everyone here knows how much I love Dave.
Can become a serious player.
Deal took a while, I reckon we played hardball and got him cheap.
What am I missing?
No doubt he had ‘body right’ problems before this year. This year has been flat out bad luck. Kidney? Buckled knee? These are NOT soft tissue injuries.Alright peeps. Gotta admit that this is the one player at Carlton that I'm a bit hesitant about. I know he has his fans so please sell him to me. I'll also admit that I have blinkers on because I wanted Dunkley so much more than Cunners at the 2015 draft and the difference in the two in terms of output is night and day.
I see the speed and the potential goal kicking ability (7 in 8 games this year but 14 in 24 over his career). But I also see a 4th year player who has only gotten 20+ disposals in 4 of his 24 career games. I also see a player who struggles to get and stay on the park.
3 years seems a season too long for his career output.
What am I missing?
They’ll stagger em to keep us wanting more, that’s what I’d do.Hoping this is the start of a few more contracts
He’ll get his chance next yearI think he'd be one of those dudes who would be ultra dangerous and effective in a Grand Final if you got him there.
Enter: Andrew Russell3 years wowee
1. They rate him very highly
2. They are confident they can get his body right
Good to see!
Excited for whats to come!
Cuningham inks new deal
The Carlton Football Club is delighted to reveal today that David Cuningham has extended his contract with the Blues for a further three seasons.www.carltonfc.com.au
Yup there was a SPS non-contest late too which I wasnt happy about.I don't want to sh*t on David after his best game in Navy, but there is something that stuck out like dogs balls to me that might have been missed by some, that I would hope the coaching staff look to address with him.
With approx. 3:15 to go in the first, a decision went against Cunners on the half back flank. He totally dropped his head and went down on his haunches when manning the mark. He was more interested in arguing with the ump then sticking his hands up. He was basically a witches hat; didn't cover the corridor side and the ball was duly driven over his head short to an Essendon player. If he mans that mark as he should, that is a far harder kick and probably doesn't happen.
Now don't get me wrong, I know DC is more an offensive weapon than anything, but every player needs to do the stone cold basics right and help out team-mates down the field. Ross Lyon spoke to it on FC recently about the importance of these small, 1%ers and I have to agree. It's well and good to be fancy, cool and skillful but if you can't man the mark properly (takes zero talent) then you are letting everyone else down.
A small thing, but something I wouldn't want to see again. Top game from DC, onwards and upwards for him from here.
