Did we not trade for this guy to be a tough lockdown defender? He is soft as butter and useless on a wing or up forward. Not much of a defender either to be honest. Should be in the magoos…

Free-Agent he was.

He is a lot of things but soft is not one of them.

3rd quarter, 10:40 left on the clock. Went very very soft

Short stepped a contested ball and let Cunnington win possession.

You go hard at Cox, why not the same for Kelly?

Edit: It was actually Turner, which is even worse.

Does he do it all the time ? No.
This was poor but I think our blokes both pulled up as they thought the other was going.
Anyone who seriously says Kelly plays soft every week seriously has not watched the game with their eyes open.
One poor incident does not make it fact. Cox has multiple offences most weeks. Kelly has not.

Total bull shit. Read this thread. I have a been a big fan of Cox and the only thing I say about Kelly is he does the team stuff which he does and he defends.
Talk about going overboard over one incident . I would say you just hate Kelly.

Mate, all last night and this morhing you have done nothing but shit on him.

All I am doing is calling out your hypocrisy.

That's as far as I'm going with this, nothing else needs to be said.

Well read the whole bloody thread to see what I think of him ! It is not hypocrisy if a bloke has one bad moment in a game where he has had 20 times where he has put himself in the contest and never flinched . The same as he does all year. Compare that to Cox who continually took the easy option and did not attack the contest at all. Hypocrisy my ass. If Cox only had one moment then I would not be commenting on it and it was not even him dropping his head in that marking contest that was the issue for me. It was the continual lack of effort to be involved. You can not cherry pick one moment in a season. Every player will have moments they would want back. That was certainly one for Kelly but to label him soft is just rubbish based on his overall performance in his career. If he was doing it every week I would call it out as well. I did not call Cox out continually until I had watched him in multiple games live and even then I held back to wait and see.

That and repeated concussion is obviously taking a toll on him, he took a while to come back after he was medically cleared because he had his own concerns and consulted his own specialists.

It makes sense that he wouldn't be super into the idea of running headlong into an opponent while he's still sorta healing, which doesn't mean he's not willing to make contact that doesn't potentially involve his head.

I am not defending that moment but watching the game about 2 minutes before that he runs flat out into Cunnington to win a contested ball and got a poke in the eye. Not using that as an excuse for the contest pictured but he did not take a backward step to make that contest and take the body contact two minutes before it. He also stands under plenty of high balls. Sometimes players have a moment. Even the hardest of them. Jake is a lot of things but regular soft he certainly is not :)

Questioning Kelly’s courage, application and physicality is like stamping your own forehead with ‘I haven’t been paying attention for the last decade’.

There is a difference in questioning courage and asking why someone spent 2 days slamming one player but not calling out others.
you can’t slam the slammers around here

There is a difference between calling out a player who is a multiple offender and calling out a bloke who had one moment he would rather forget which came two minutes after he won a circuital hard ball against a player who is renown for winning hard balls. You can not cherry pick a moment in time and then compare it to a player who is currently a multiple offender. Question it all you want but expect a reply back when your question has holes in it. Kelly has been 1000% harder at the footy than Cox ever has.

So you're saying Cox could be harder?

To be effective yes 👍
