Sometimes it doesn't get said enough but you are a legend giantroo

Man he is in good nick. Wouldn't be surprised if he absolutely torches it this year and ends up top 5 in the BnF
RF - do you reckon he’ll get enough time in his preferred position ( in the guts) to make a big leap forward

Yep. People have quickly forgotten how good this kid could be if he reaches the sort of output he showed as a junior. Things just haven't gone his way over the last 12 months.

I'd imagine our centre square rotations will be something along these lines:

Rotation 1: Cunnington, LDU, Simpkin
Rotation 2: Phillips, Powell, Simpkin
Rotation 3: Cunnington, Powell, LDU

With the odd bit of Shiels, TT, Stephenson & Greenwood thrown in and maybe Wardlaw later on in the season.

100%. He was smashing it last preseason before he got hit with glandular fever.

.

Yep. I think I may have posted around draft period time about looking back at his draft year highlights videos and realising how good this kid could be.

I think LDU may have said something last year that he is now confident to take games on in the way he did in the Under 18s.

A bit like Cunners, these élite midfielders can take a few years to adapt to the pace of the game and regain the confidence in their ability that made them dominant juniors.

Will Phil is in the same category as these two I reckon.

All good points but I also think that some of what we've seen of Will Phillips in his first few games had him ahead of the other two imho. Just in terms of getting up to speed with the game. The glandular fever obviously took out his second season but once he has the fitness and strength to match it with opponents, he will be as much a weapon as Cunners, Jy and LDU.

I just want Will to play 20+ games this season. I don't expect him to dominate, but he plays that many games and he'll show enough signs of the player he'll become

if there's a young mid that will break out this year, then it will be Powelly IMO. one of the reasons is because he's essentially got 2 years of footy on Will when you look at how much they've respectively played since they turned 17

but i also just think he's genuinely special and will develop into an absolute quality 4th mid behind cunners, ldu and jyza this year. he should be looking to average 20-22 possessions a game this year, and i wouldn't be surprised to see it closer to 25. and, as everyone knows, if tom powell touches the footy that much then good things are going to happen

Your centre rotations are on the money. Looks good broken down. That one mighty bloke Cunners in there just makes it look super competitive

Has a lot better balance now. Cunners obviously helps the contested ball, but all the rest of them can really hold their own too.

LDU has significantly improved his defensive application and two way running. Just need Powell to do the same and it'll be a really solid combination for the next 10 years imo.

So excited about what 2023 is going to bring for WillPhil.

A driven highly skilled young man with a point to prove. Put him at the coal face and watch him explode.

Having Will regularly on the park and accumulating possessions will mean more of those 30 metre forward entries to leading forwards, rather than the traditional hoof and hope entries of years gone by.

“and the game plan right now is really clear”

**** knows what Noble was teaching the group??? The bottom team with a young list, you would think he would start off with the basics of his game plan and build once they became competent at it? Or at least dumb it down once he realised the group wasn’t getting it?

The previous 2 coaching appointments have been totally disastrous.

To be perfectly fair, Shaw was a decent appointment until the hubs. Goes without saying that you don't end up in hospital with a mental health crisis without something going seriously wrong. Big covid shaped asterisk next to his tenure imo

I heard from a respected poster here that Will thinks Noble is a dickhead. This was articulated whilst he was still coach.

Like a marriage, I guess you never know what is going on behind closed doors.

Aligning with what others have said, I'm still astounded at the difference between the way Noble presented publicly to what was happening.

Perhaps a truer snake oil salesmen than Scotts? Full corporate executive mode of denying any issues until the very last.

The rumour was there was a general older v young player divide over Noble, with the older boys being in favour and the younger boys vice versa.

Except for Goldy. He couldn’t stand Noble.

Greenwood & Hall are about the only ones who I’ve heard were real fans of him.

It could also be argued that the Hub merely compressed an inevitable long term problem into a 4 month window.

Disagree. If we think about the mental health consequences of the lockdowns, it's not a stretch to apply the same logic to the hubs. Anyway, we are where we are now, an ok position in most visible aspects of the club's operations, from which we can hopefully jump up the ladder

Yeah nah, in my opinion he was way over his head which led to the stress. Covid just compounded the situation.
