I get what your saying but I actually think that’s us playing into their game. I’d much rather we go with best available as Smalls, if we have to dump it long make sure we’re competing and get the ball to ground. He’ll play Geary on Balta and just tell him to punch the ball all night. I just did a best 22 both ways and it’s truly weird reading. Plus they’ll have to drop Chol for Lynch I suspect.

Our forward line of Geary, Membs, Billings, King, Lonie, Butler will just completely disrupt their back 6 of Vlaustin, Balta, Grimes, Houli, Short and Astbury. It’s reliant on us playing to our forward line (lower eyes, scrub the ball forward if we have to) but I think Marsh just gets outbodied/outmarked if he plays anyway.
You cant be serious , Geary would be giving away 11cm in height and 18kg , yes he played well on the weekend Gears but he isn't superman.

I'm still backing the boys to win. We thrive more and more when we're the underdogs. Yes, long, Carlisle and Paddy were essential to our win, but this is team support.

All 3 are unfortunate circumstances, I do think Long should be given a fine, not a suspension. The mindset should be, let's win on Friday, so Long can play against Port.

Similar to Pies, everyone's counting us out and the likelihood of us winning is decreasing every day.

The boys got this, let's continue the good joyful spirits from Saturday night throughout this week.

Agree and I’ll back us in as long as we are not up by 5 goals at three-quarter time. 😫

Geary to tag Houli IMO.

He didn't impress me when he played...

But I think Ryan Abbott has to come in. It allows Marshall to get fwd and impact. We can't let King go up against Grimes, Balta and Astbury in the air.

Our only chance is efficient entries to 15m out and a mark or crumb. Which I can't see happening without Marshall down there helping King

I think Richmond will field a taller forward half against us now we have lost Carlise and Paddy, so it makes sense to bring Abbott and Marsh.

Let's not forget last time we played Richmond we stuck Marsh on Grimes and it was very effective.

Grimes doesn't get a lot of footy but he gets involved in just about every contest in the air.

Wouldn't be surprised to see that happen again. The defensive forward has worked very well for us on most occasions.

The only issue we'd have with playing Marsh forward is that leaves Wilkie and Howard in defence.

I'm more than happy for Wilkie to go to Riewoldt, but he's also the best match up for Dusty.

Doesn't sound as though Battle will play.

I’d be surprised if Richmond changes their selection based on us. They back their system in more than any team. I don’t think they’ll try to go extra tall when it’s likely to be a bit slippery.

Yep i feel the same and for structure he comes in 100%. I struggle to see how he's not selected to be honest.

He’ll should be Hell* and it was more a statement that if we commit to not bombing the ball and playing to a smaller forward line I think that’s better than hoping marsh can negate their intercept talls.

Lethlean

"Josh is going pretty well, he'll train across the week to put his hand up"

"We won't know until pretty close to time"

Sounds better than I thought
Im not worried about him putting his hand up , its his foot that is the problem ;)

Well lets see if he is telling porky pies or my info is wrong

He did mention doctors and said 'pleasing'. My Richo induced PTSD just kicked in.

He'll or Hell , you still cant play Geary on Balta

I'm just happy that we have Jimmy Webster who has a cool head and plenty of experience , who can come in and play a similar game to Long.
I still remember when losing a player like Raph Clark meant we had to play Luke Miles.

It's definitely fortunate that of all the players to get suspended that it was a rebound back. It's the one area that we have multiple experienced players who could walk in and have a similar impact to Long. The injustice of the decision aside this is a positive.

Gives extreme motivation to print out the judgement, 1 letter per page, and shove the whole ream fair up the AFL ...

Who knew having so many defenders would actually pay off.

And while Ryder is a huge out, having to ruck Rowan Marshall solo is hardly a bad situation to be in.

So people’s sources saying he hasn’t trained at all and our coach and other club officials are saying he’s training well and a massive chance.

Someone’s telling porky pies

Maybe both are telling the truth. He is obviously under a cloud with a bad foot. 'Training well', could mean anything from a full training session to walking the boundary or standing there handballing, depending on what has been set him.

We just have to wait and see. Gut feel, he wont play.

All jokes aside, there is no way in hell Abbott plays.

When he played against the Hawks he was a million miles of the level and was murdered and non competitive in the ruck.
It was a shocking performance, he let them just walk it out of the centre.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Marsh into the side. His best game of the year was against Richmond as a defensive/marking hybrid forward. 11 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 1 goal, 1 contested mark, 2 marks inside 50, 1 goal assist. And Vlastuin had his worst game of the year that day.

So here's my suggestion for the three changes (a further refinement of earlier thoughts based on Long staying suspended):

Marsh in for Ryder, into forward rotation with Marshall into the ruck

Battle for Carlisle, like for like, Battle into defensive rotation. If Battle doesn't come up then I think you play Roberton.

Hind in for Long, Geary to back line.

Forwards: King, Membrey, Marsh, Lonie, Butler, Kent, Hind
Midfielders: Steele, Ross, Hannebery, Jones, Sinclair, Billings, Hill with Marshall
Defenders: Howard, Wilkie, Battle, Coffield, Paton, Geary, Clark

Hahaha, imagine bringing in a key backman for his debut AFL match in a semi final against the raining premiers! The absolute brass balls of the mercy committee, it would be laughed about for generations - or lauded if we still somehow won.

Personally, though I'd like to see Clavarino get his chance, doing it this week would be like storming the border between risky and reckless in a convoy of golf carts and clown cars.

I remember in 2004 we bought in some nobody called Gwilt to play against port in a prelim. He went okay despite lots of fans wondering if GT had found Butterss stash.
