AFL Player # 3: Darcy Parish

I think one of the interviews recently mentioned that he'd done a lot of work on his tank over pre-season so maybe the running looks better because he can do it for longer?

This is important info that keeps getting over looked in the whole should have been playing him midfield before this year. It was the interview after the Anzac day game where Parish admitted he had done a power of work on his running / fitness and his ability to get from contest to contest had gone through the roof and to a complete other level.

If you're going to use stats, use this thing;

You can change which stats display and the full stats are listed below the spider web thing.

Alternatively, this is benchmarked (elite= top 10% for mids, above average = top 11-35%, etc.), and you can actually watch them play in the video player;

Stats pro is great except for one minor detail. Dual position players. You can not compare Peter Wright to the KP forwards as he is listed as a ruck. The overall stats are great though. :)

What do we mean when we say the midfield?

Using centre bounce attendances, he did have 7 games last season where he appeared in under 50% of the CBA's for the game, but then Merrett was in the same boat. I'm guessing this season's numbers for Parish would mimic Shiel's numbers for last season. So are we just having a technical argument about his overall time in the midfield, which might be not that much different this season, because he's a much more prominent fixture in the high profile, but very brief, CBAs?

Not a reliable indicator as teams often send players in for a center bounce and then they drift forward. So a players can attend a center bounce but not actually play midfield. Stringer and Walla are the example. Dev Smith often went into the middle but was playing high half forward.

Is it just me or do him and Zach play like they’re best mates? It’s like they’re joined at the hip on the ground.
I hadn't noticed but now that I think about it, they do.

Aside from the whole dominating factor, am I the only one that thinks he's gained a yard of pace? Not only getting to more contests, but breaking away from them too.

There's no doubt his improved fitness means he can run at pace a lot more often. I always rated him as about average pace AFL wise but now he's running at his top end pace in a lot more sprint efforts than before.

His ability to hunt and gather the ball around contests is in the top few in the league. His game is pretty complete now and we have another genuine A grade midfielder.

Some were a little too quick to write him off or look to trade. Always had talent and played with intensity and basically had a crack every week. Just got to give them a bit of time.

I noticed that in the Anzac Day video that Herbatron did there was clip from Parish's first game where he did the one-two with Merrett. So it's been a thing his whole career, but definitely more noticeable this year due to his increase in midfield time.
