this is what I don’t understand…

We got smashed and it is the person that was seemingly seen as our best player by multiple unbiased sources (not me) is the person we need to move on? Sounds a bit silly TBH.
He wasn’t our best player. 7 contested possessions while being at the coal face all day and we got absolutely lit up in the midfield. Yeh nah the going gets tough and darcy doesn’t turn up

Lots of silly s**t is often said in the aftermath of a 100+ point flogging.
A loss like that means you can hang s**t on your least favourite player.
This.

The amount of shit posted in this thread as opposed to other player threads is completely disproportionate to his actual effect on the margin.

Darcy was bog average yesterday - at best.
But that is better than most of the squad, though.

Unlike Hobbs, Caldwell and Merrett who did?
Their contested possession numbers were 6, 7 and 10 respectively.
Hell, no one showed yesterday ffs.

caldwell and hobbs are young, and aren’t after 750+ a year. Merrett rarely gets a heap of contested ball, so 10 for him is sort of respectable
So being young is an excuse for not cracking in, and it's ok for the skipper of a team being belted by 120 points not to get his hands dirty because he doesn't normally have to?

Nice to see those objective standards of effort etc that everyone bleats on about are being applied to every player equally.

Darcy is an easy target because he is out of contract and people don't like him to begin with. Yesterday was unmitigated disaster by every player that laced up their boots.

Where did I say it’s an excuse for no cracking in. Everyone should be cracking in, but young players performance will fluctuate. Hobbs had 7 tackles and 18 touches, that’s around about his mark. Parish is one of the highest paid players at the club and contested possession is meant to be what his game is based on. You want to put your hand out for 750+ a week you don’t get to pick and choose when you want to crack in.

Parish aint going anywhere

That Geelong list is an unmitigated disaster waiting to happen, will be like the Australia cricket team when Lillee and co all left at the same time.

They even whiffed on the free hit the AFL/GC gave them with pick 7, next selwood my ass.

Parish will to wherever he gets offered the money he wants.

You really judging jhye clark off his first season where he’s been injured? Laughable

Gave him an HM in the mvp thread cos he kept running, which is more than you can say about most.

Im thinking he's gone if he hasnt signed by end of week.

Half the board were judging Tsatas while he injured so foh with that.

Didn't rate him last year either he's not even vanilla, more like diet vanilla, Gibney and the Pou will be much better so thank **** Geelong got sucked into the next Selwood bullshit

Well those judging an injured player who hasn’t stepped foot on an afl field are clueless.

Clark is not vanilla is a tough nut. There is a difference from being a toughnut and being a vanilla midfielder. Libba, selwood, butters etc are no vanilla they’re toughnuts. Macrae, Brayshaw parish are vanilla midfielders.

Merrett only got going in 2nd half junk time. Up until half time he had 10 touches and 1 tackle... As the captain.

At half time, Parish was our leading possession-getter, leading clearance player and leading tackler. Yet it's Parish who's copping all the shit while Merrett escapes scrutiny? Typical really.

Nearly half of parish’s touches in the first half were turnovers, so he might aswell been playing Gws

parish is good, but not that good, and we don’t have the system/cattle in place to capitalise on his strengths while covering his weaknesses. if the list was built correctly we wouldn’t be in this position, but this is where it’s at and it’s probably easier to let him go than to rearrange the rest of the midfield to fit him in. will probably rip us to shreds for another team, but it’ll say more about their structure/balance/gameplan than darcy.

Parish playing: 7 wins / 10 losses / 88%
Parish not playing: 4 wins / 1 loss / 114%

In games where Parish plays we finished 6W-2D-9L in clearances and when he wasn't in the team we finished 2W-2D-1L.

Whatever value that Parish provides directly, it seems as though we have successfully covered for that in the past via other players. That might involve Merrett doing more inside work or younger players taking on more responsibility.

If he decides to move on, I don't think we should shed a tear and we certainly shouldn't break the bank to retain him.

real cross roads moment for Adrian Dodoro imho

Not just Parish but BZT, Heppell, AMT, few tough decisions to make
Think you will find Scott will be making the calls on the current players.
