Schmick, i know he was pick 2 in the draft, but because he hasnt shown anything yet due to not being out there how can he be of value? I should of phrased my question better. :)

We understand your question, it's just a stupid one. Schmick's reply answers it.

Merv, this is an article out of the herald sun today, i didnt make it up

I realize that.

My statement was directed at those that have been listening to the BF rumours and were concerned about him leaving.

That's why i didn't quote your post.

I have posted the same response in several other "Gumby is leaving" threads also

If Gumbleton left I would be absolutely gutted. Would ruin Essendon for the next few seasons. No matter what compensation we received it would be shattering news. Fingers crossed it doesnt eventuate.

I see nothing wrong with the question. Been plenty of 'talented' low picks with enormous 'potential' who haven't been able to get out on the park, etc... If he's suffered a lot of injuries, surely that'd decrease his trade value? Remember, Judd went No.3 because of his shoulders.

Gumbleton would still fetch a hefty price if he was to be traded at the end of the year. Pick in the top 5 would be expected. Or a good player plus an early second round. He still commands great trade value. By no means do I hope he leaves though.

I wonder what it would take to get WC to agree to a deal where Kerr comes to Windy Hill and gives us 6 or 7 years of service..?

Gumbleton,Dyson,Johns,Slattery and Chartres...and ...? for Kerr.

Excuse me? No chance mate. Gumbleton plus their second round for Kerr would be fair. Actually, yeah, throw in those extra four players.

Kerr + Second Round for Gumbleton + the Bendigo All Stars.

I'd rather get Daniel Rich thanks:thumbsu:

I'd give Wet Toast Gumbleton, our first rd pick..and Danny Chartres for Kerr.

But they wouldn't accept that of course..

Luckily you are not part of our drafting/trading team. That would be stupid..we give Gumbleton..a pick 2 in a Superdraft, one that has MASSIVE potential, for Kerr who has a history of off field antics that I do not want near our side and someone who is getting older..yes that would be real smart. Gumbleton would not be traded unless he wants to go home, and I'd expect a decent trade, Mitch Brown + their first rounder would be around the mark I'd be expecting.

They would say a definite no, they have huge wraps on Brown and would know that the top end of this year's draft looks very very promising, some of the top talents on show are absolutely freakish...

Off field antics. Wouldn't be a problem if he came to Essendon. He's grown up a bit in the last 12 months and realises and admits he was not focused entirely on his football.

He's in the top 10 most valuable AFL players imo and I would give the world to get him in an essendon jumper.

What makes you say Kerr has stopped his off field antics..I don't think so. Not a role model off the field I want our players to be around. Great player or not, I don't want him at Essendon. If Worsfold struggles to keep Kerr in line, Knights I have serious doubts on his ability at this stage to do any better than WCE have done. Do not be fooled in the "we'll he'll be better at Essendon (or any other club)" line. It simply is not true.

As I said glad you are not in the trading/drafting team as you want QUICK FIX solutions..remind me how Freo have gone with these band aid solutions.

Not sure if he and Kennedy would work in the same team - they seem to be twins

196cm v 197cm
Pure CHF v Pure CHF
Lack of pace off the mark v Lack of pace off the mark

The only way I could see it getting done is with Mitch Brown forcing our hand in a return to Victoria + 18 & 20 or one of our midfielders.

Gumbleton is actually 199cm.
He is not just a opure CHF. He can play CHB as well.
He is not slow. His pace is very good.

Put him up against 90% of the CHF's in the league and he will exposed for a lack of lateral movement and pace off the mark. Gumby playing defence would be like Kozi playing key defence these days - ball movement is way too quick for them.

At DC he recorded ~ 3.15+ 20m - very much on the low end for power forwards and way down for key defenders, he can expose smaller backmen on the lead because he run and jumps at the ball and takes it at it's highest point routinely (similar style to Sticks) and because of his big frame and work rate.

A bigger, slower, less athletic version of Riewoldt.

He is a pure CHF or possibly backup ruck - definitely not a defender

Yes, wouldn't be a problem at Essendon they always turn around problem players like Ty Zantuck, Damien Cupido...

Would be shattering to see Gumby decide to leave and I sincerely hope it does not occur; but hypothetically this is my slant on how we could try to make the most of an unfortunate situation:

Gumby; Johns; 2nd round pick (somewhere around 18-22) for

Mitch Brown & Kerr

I was considering adding a swap of first round picks as well if we finish below WCE, but I left that out because we wouldn't let Rich go if we had the pick to secure him.

Our midfield issues would then be solved with a quality young midfield of Kerr; Rich; Watson; McVeigh; Stanton; Myers; Houli; Hislop; etc....

Brown to step into Gumby's role to go tandem with Neagle for 10+ years.
