Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Tried hard but he was very ordinary, been out of the game for a long time so the Dons will give him time. He will play next week.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Should be doing his developmental stuff in the 2's. Not his fault he does not ask for the hype from fans and coaches when he is clearly not ready yet.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

I'd play him against the Dockers next week - played against the reigning premiers was always going to be a hard task. Play him against the Dockers next week in the hope we play well and provide him with plenty of opportunities.

He just seemed to lack a bit of confidence tonight - he needs a few strong grabs to gain some confidence.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Wasn't good tonight, but it was his first real hit out for 2 years. We should persist with him in the senior team, I think he will improve rapidly once he has a few games under his belt and we need him to.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

I think we should give him a chance against Freo but if he has a similar game to tonight's we should put him in Bendigo to develop.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

As a key forward, there is absolutely no excuse to be outmarked, and out bodied by Andrew Mackie.

I have a theory about Peel players, and Im happy to apply it to Morabito as well, I believe they have an inflated value when drafted.

These kids stand out and look so much better than they are, simply becuase they are surrounded by shit footballers.

Who am I talking about?

Farren Ray
Daniel Wells
Matt Riggio
Brock Obrien
Scott Gumbleton
Ballantyne
Morabito

Now Im not saying these kids cant play, I just dont think any were worth a top 10 pick, I dont think O'brien should have been drafted full stop and Matt Riggio didnt even play in the State carnival FFS and he went second round.

It's hard to explain how shit Peel are, what Im saying is anyone drafted from that club needs to be looked pretty thoroughly, are they that good or are they made to look a lot better than what they are?

Personally, I think a few have fallen into the latter category.

Having said that Im not sure Gumbleton will ever be the KP you guys are looking for, he played his best footy in the Juniors at Halls Head and then in the colts and League side for Peel playing as a ruckman.

Could he ever be used in that position at the Dons?

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Wouldn't question Gumby in this forum - he is a sacred cow.

Heaps of people will tell you he is a gun, yet none of them have seen him play any decent footy.

Its strange that those watchers cannot differentiate between a true talent in Hurley as oppossed to a trier like Gumby.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

I don't see how anyone can make any judgments on Gumbleton at this stage. Let's reserve that for when we've actually seen him string a few games together.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

I thought he was a little bit harshly ragged on by the commentators last night. OK, he didn't look good, that's true. His kicks were lousy when he did get the ball. But I thought, particularly early, he actually contested and presented, and for a guy who hasn't got on the park for 3 years, that's almost enough. It's not like Ryder or Neagle or Hille were plucking grabs and kicking goals either.

Sure, he's shown nothing, but the guy must be talented to have been taken where he was... hopefully he gets to show us.

Good post faz :thumbsu:. He didnt look good but i also thought he presented well early when no one could take a mark

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Most of the passes to him were either at his feet or over our head, if we want our young KPPers to kick ass the midfield could do with some cooler heads when entering the F50 or moving the ball through the corridor.

Saw too many leads ignored last night because of our midfielders reluctance to try an easy little stab pass to a leading forward, instead the hesitated, bombed it to a contest or looped it over someones head in the pocket.

****in ay! Delivery to him was ordinary all night and at times he was up against 2 defenders. Seriously, all we should be expecting from him is to not get injured and just get some games under his belt and if he has an impact then that's a bonus. If he has a goal a game average by the end of the season then I think he's doing pretty well after missing 2 years of footy.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Before the game I thought, I'll be happy if he runs it out and doesn't get injured. Expect the signs to improve in the next couple of games once he has some confidence that his body's not going to give out.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

I'm not sure how much I buy into this delivery thing.

At times it may have been ordinary, but we simply do not create enough space in our forward line to lead or kick to.

I would like to see Ryder or Neagle starting in the goal square, with nobody else in the forward 50. Gumbleton can lead up the ground in a Reiwoldt style, with small forwards sprinting in to be at their feet as the ball hits them.

The pace with which we move the ball should allow our forwards to kick bags. Our congested structure makes this far too hard.

That being said, I would have liked to see Gumby used more as a target, and leading more too. I feel we had to use every opportunity to get him into the game, and he had to continually lead to get himself in the game- even if it was from outside 50.
