Player Watch #31: Oleg Markov

Looking at potential matchups in the backline I think Balta to Kennedy, Broad in to play on Darling, Grimes to mind Allen and potentially Markovzorro to L.I.Am Ryan. But this leaves one of Vlastuin, Houli, Short, Baker looking for a new role. Surely Broad comes back given all the tall timber forward for the Eagles, so it is really tough to figure out what happens with the 8th defender.

Brander is also playing and doing quite well. Very mobile 195cm who has played games on the wing.

He’s exceeded my expectations and being playing well.

However, I think Broad must come in this week.

If he was to hold his spot in the team I’d be moving him up forward.

I'm a huge fan of his work since coming back into the side.

Quick and sharp disposal in the clinches down back, good height for spoiling / marking

but most important, he loves to take the game on. His dash out of the back half draws opposition players and opens up the ground for the rest of our guys.

Would be absolutely crazy to drop him on current form.

Yer that bit of play where he crumbs the Darling dropped mark deep in their forward line and takes off was classic line breaking run and carry.

Kicking skills are above average and at 188cm and a good leap can defend in the air.

At this stage probably outside our best 22 when our list is fully fit, but if he can string a few more like that together it’ll be hard to drop him

I'm just happy for the guy to be honest. He has struggled for form at AFL level, but is now starting to put it all together.

Hope he keeps it going, the team is largely selected on form, so as long as he keeps it up, I dont see him getting dropped.

Probably gets pushed out if we are fully fit by finals, but hopefully can get a new deal and cement himself next season. Think he has made a really good claim to be in our best 22 moving forward.

I’d love to see what he could do as a half forward. He’s lightning quick so could take the place of one of the smalls but is tall enough to be a medium. Can’t remember if he’s a good overhead mark? Might go alight on a wing too.

yeah id love to see him play both of those roles.
he's definitely had opportunity to do so as well this year with injury and the form of some the small forwards.
they are sold on him however on the half back flank and he has done well there.
still he was drafted as a forward and played some good footy there last year in the vfl so id love to see him get a go there at some point, just not sure when/if that'll happen for him.

We would be silly to do that to a young player that has shown a fair bit.Skills and kicking beautiful we got to work on his defensive game like alot of others we have in the past.
