I am not confident with selection this week.

Maybe....

Out: Broad, Hopper, Short, Martin, Ryan, Young

In: Miller, Ross, Cumberland, Clarke, Ralphsmith, Dow

To leave our team:

Back7
Balta Grimes Miller
DRioli Baker Vlastuin Ralphsmith

Wing3
Ross Picket McIntosh

Mid4
Taranto Prestia Cotchin Dow

Rucks
Nankervis/Miller

Forward7
Riewoldt Lynch
MRioli Bolton Graham 2 of Mansell/Cumberland/Clarke

Sub: 1 of Mansell, Cumberland, Clarke.

I am 110% sure I won't have that right, it is a huge guessing game. But it would not shock me at all to see a raft of changes like this, and the team adding run and subtracting height for this fixture.

Dow?

If Hopper couldn't kick or get any outside ball. Bust.

I would describe all our inside mids as average/below average kicks, Hopper included. I don't see Dow as being significantly worse than they were at the same stage of their careers.

He averaged a little over 20 touches a game last year in the VFL, which is comfortably in the range of what we expect from our senior inside mids.

Whether he makes it or not is another question, but the coaching staff seem happy with him and he played some respectable games last year, so that's enough for me to suspend judgement for a while yet. :thumbsu:

Really? So it was the weather that night. Wasn’t his inexperience and build then?

It was actually a killer corkie he got in his very first centre ruck contest. He coped a knee in the hip and could hardly run. It hindered him all night. Fact.

and risk knee injuries? No ******* way

You dont send a Mercedes into a demolition derby. He needs to be trained up as a forward who can ruck part time.
Mercedes. Are you trucking kidding? He had one game where he was okay against an undersized backline. Get a sense of reality. Yes he shows promise but with one game under his belt at senior level, I’d suggest you’re jumping the gun. There are very few players of ruckman height that have made it as a key forward and their clubs have rarely been successful. Yes we need to get games into him and those will be predominantly forward. Longer term I see him more suited to a ruck forward role.

Yea I would have thought Dow no better or worse kick than hop, tbh I reckon jack G could go into midfield and offset the loss of hopper and at this stage produce no less output . Hops journey with us has just began I expect he’ll impact far greater after mid season , right now we can cover all of the ommisions , no problem

No need to rush anyone, especially kids who could potentially be solid contributors to a finals campaign if they can get some good continuity in their footy later in the year.
Sonsie's 2022 season and final was excellent. . Who knows what happens in 2023. Just focus on the week to week. Finals? maybe but
Dominated VFL for 2 weeks.

I'm not gonna bother watching the replay of this pathetic game.... But I'll be fu@ked if Samson didn't spill 4 or 5 gettable chestmarks unopposed!!!! Clearly he's putrid unless conditions are perfect.... Maybe to suit the little rubber chested petal we can hope to swap our home ground to Telstra Dome so he can actually get a kick. FMD play Biggie, Bauer, Bradtke, Miller, hell anybody got McBeans number???
